Oks, so the thread about Samantha Brick (from the daily mail) and the spin off... Do YOU think you are beautiful had me thinking.... quite a few people said they were not beautiful, or they were common/average and some even classed themselves as butt ugly huh.gif If you don't see yourself as beautiful/attractive in relation to body image, what do you perceive is considered beautiful by the outside world.

I will put in a disclaimer now that I know a person is much, much more than their looks and image.

I don't think I've ever had great self esteem. I've been teased and bullied throughout primary and high school. It was about things that I couldn't control such as my height, the fact I wear glasses, my mum cut my hair and I was never allowed to grow it long like other girls, and the clothes my parents bought me to wear. It was not until I got to university that I was accepted by peers for who I am. I struggle now to find any physical feature that I can acknowledge as beautiful - except for my hair when I've been to the hairdresser and had it straightened (it's normally a curly, fluffy thing that is contained in a hair tie at work due to the constant threat of headlice).

So what do you think the outside world sees as physical beauty/attractiveness?

From a scientific point of view, youth, good health indicators (clear skin, eyes, etc) and facial symmetry is pretty important.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his nee
being well groomed, healthy and having a sunny disposition help.

Things like a wonky nose, large wart on one's chin or a hairy mole tend to detract, no matter how clean the hair and smiley the face...

I think being tall, slim, long hair and well presented seem to be attractive to men. I often see woman with very average faces getting a lot of attention.

This, except youth doesn't have to be a factor.

Good humour adds a lot to any face. I do like irregularities also, so a quirky feature or funny teeth can actually add to the beauty for me. One thing I don't like is too much makeup. Too much makeup is almost always ugly, no matter how beautiful the woman in question. I think a healthy figure is important though not necessarily within BMI - plenty of plumper women are beautiful.

Cobwebs are the new black!
To me beautiful and attractive are 2 different things.

Girls I would describe as beautiful are women with classic looks. Old hollywood type looks and more innocent looking (hard to describe sorry). Nearly all the celebrity women I have crushes on I wouldn't describe as beautiful but as hot or sexy or cute.

To me, lower body fat percentages and/or muscle present under the fat is more of an issue than the weight itself. Very "loose" jiggly skinny-fat isn't generally attractive to me, but strong women with fat riding on top of it might lack muscle definition as far as the lines that they'd have if they were leaner but still have nice shape to their limbs/butts/etc.

My face would be my best feature, big blue eyes, clear skin, straight smallish nose, medium symmetrical (sp) lips,my face is round so if I go over my healthy weight I get a double chin, but I'm at a healthy weight.I'm quite short (160cm) short hair-blonde bob,I'm size 8-10 but have DD chest & get heaps of guys look, but to be honest I think it's cos I'm often smiling & have a bubbly disposition in public.
I have friends with all different kinds of things that are attractive, whether short or tall, long or short hair, colour of hair or eyes, big or small chested.
I do look after myself but not all groomed like that lady in the article.I don't consider her attractive at all.
BTW when I was in primary school I was chubby & always thought I was the ugliest in the class.
A beautiful & confident personality will always shine through :-)
PP I hate that how guys go for a tall blonde with an average face & average personality!!!

Oh I agree with steppy about having something quirky,I've got a thing for imperfect teeth!!I have a decent gap between my 2 front teeth & would never change it.I actually wouldn't change anything,I like getting older too(I'm 37)

Thought I'd come back and post what I perceive are seen as attributes of physical attractiveness in a woman:

Tall (in particular long legs)
slim build ~ and not always within a healthy weight range eg: Miranda Kerr was stated as being 48kgs and over 170cm tall in an article after she gave birth to Flynn
long flowing hair of any colour
at least a C cup chest with a narrow waist
minimal features that detract such as hair on the chin, wart on nose, big red pimples
An added bonus is if the woman has something such as sultry or stunning eyes, full soft lips, an asymmetrical face, high prominent cheekbones, clear muscle definition
