Could it be motion sickness? Although I wouldn't have thought she would have been able to anticipate feeling sick at 12 weeks! I know you can get acupressure bands for kids which sometimes help, but they would probably be too big for a baby. Worth a try, maybe?

Another one who can sympathize - DD2 disliked the car, DD1 hated it with an ear-splitting passion.
Just food for thought, I believe DD1 was really bad due to having silent reflux. Her body position in the car seat seemed to really curl her up on that weird half-lying-back angle and of course the seat belt meant she couldn't move at all. It didn't matter if she was in the car for 5 mins for 2 hours, she almost always had to burp or (TMI warning) I could often hear her stomach contents coming up her throat, like retching, but she would swallow it back down again, gulping and crying and this often happened when she got out of the car. We ended up having two different brand car seats (one in mine, one in DH's car) and DD1 had a definite preference for the seat in DH's car as I think it raised her up and kept her body flatter, not so hunched over. The only thing that really helped us was time and changing to FF as really let DD1 sit upright and not be so physically uncomfortable. Good luck, it's so hard to hear your baby cry and concentrate on traffic. |

That's right I remember also playing Jet's album REALLY LOUD in the car. For some reason he would go quiet to 'Cold Hard B*tch'. LOL!
And Sleepy Jackson would send him to sleep. Go figure! Actually any Sleepy Jackson song still sends him to sleep and he's nearly 6. |

Sorry, no tips but a bit of hope, DD2 became hysterical in the car and I was a wreck driving anywhere (we had to do a 1.5 hour drive at Christmas and it was awful, even with me sitting in the back she screamed endlessly to the point that she would choke). For some reason though at 4 months she just calmed down and now actually goes to sleep in the car

Hi...I have no words of wisdom just sympathy...DS2 is the same...we have had to take several long car trips recently ...on the freeway so you can't pull over...he screamed for about 40 minutes before eventually drifting off to sleep...it was like a kind of "forced" control crying...hope it's not as damaging as some studies apparently suggest it is (I say "apparently" as I haven't personally read the studies)

Any chance she has reflux? Even silent reflux?
If so, being hunched in a carseat can exacerbate the pain. It's more of an issue in capsules though, so if you've got a convertible carseat that might not be the problem. My DD will fall asleep in the car, but if she wakes up and we're still driving, she freaks out and screams. The ONLY thing that'll soothe her is loud music. Rock music, that is. Not loud enough to hurt her ears, but still pretty loud. She loves it. |

I was wondering about reflux Roses99, might have to ask the GP when we go next week.
Gonna try the music thing and apparently there is a white noise app you can download so might try that too! |

If I had my time over again, I'd not hire a capsule but go straight for the RF convertible seat. I think the capsules squash them uncomfortably in the middle and once I had my daughter in her RF seat she actually SLEPT in the car she was so comfy.
Ours goes from birth to 18kg and I wish I'd bought it from the start. |
