Probably a variant, its used mre as a girls name now i think.
Just to edit what i said earlier, im not AGAINST any names or for any names, i tend to like people for who they are. And fall in love with all kids and bubs. I am just struggling with names! I do like unusual more than common though but whether Id call my child something uncommon is another thing. |

Well, his parents must have been pretentious twats. But then, I'm not a big fan of using names from other cultures/religions unless you have some affinity or association with that culture or religion. This. Feel free to use a 'different' or 'cultural' name, but this is what the general populace will think before they know your reason for using it (and oftentimes after). |

I was going to mention Dichen from Dollhouse but pp beat me to it. She was also in neighbuors I think the only 'cultural' names I could get away with are Irish ones, but I wouldn't want to butcher the spelling but would want them readable/pronounceable.

Well, his parents must have been pretentious twats. But then, I'm not a big fan of using names from other cultures/religions unless you have some affinity or association with that culture or religion. Most names are from other cultures and/or religions, most of us would have very few names to choose from if we could only choose our own culture/religion. I've used Italian and Greek names yet I have no affinity/association with those cultures - should I have just chosen a thoroughly British name such as Sebastian instead? Dechen is ok, it doesn't sound so out there to me - not even twatty unless you walk around going 'it's tibetan'. I liked it better before I read how it was pronounced though, the hard 'ch' puts me off a little.
Reminds me of the male E.European name 'Dushan' This post has been edited by leisamd: 05/04/2012, 07:13 AM |
