Hi there
I have a 4 year old German Shepherd and I want to stop her pooing and weeing right outside the patio doors! Does anyone have any suggestions? I have closed the doors and opened the laundry door to coax her to the other side of the house but no dice! Even when I pooper-scooper it all up, the alfresco area still has the feint revolting smell that never seems to go away! Is there anything that will alleviate the smell as well? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Not sure, our dog always poos fairly far away from the house... Unless the ground is wet and mushy. You could make the ground outside the door wet and mushy, let he lawn grow long there and make sure it since and mowed where you want the dog to go or move the dogs food and water bowl to the back door area.
I am sure someone will have some better ideas for you. |

My dog does the same thing in wet weather. Drives me absolutely insane.
I don't get it though - I thought they didn't do this near their water and food. |

They do it where they have been before, because they can smell the scent. A good idea is to sprinkle something your dog would not like the smell of e.g. pepper, cayenne pepper and I think you can buy a product which you sprinkle on the area to keep dogs away, but I cannot remember the name of it. If you go to a pet shop, or even online, you should be able to find it.

Invest in some Urine Off - either from Hardware or Vet. You need the heavy duty stuff to get it out of concrete and wood.
Then you need to fence off her preferred spot - and take her to the new spot. When she goes there, praise and reward with treats etc, so she gets the message that the new spot is "good". Hopefully after a few weeks, the new spot will be sufficiently reinforced so that the old spot is no longer ground zero. |

LOL my beagle does NOT like wet feet. If the grass is remotely damp from rain or sprinklers he will go directly outside the back door. Drives us nuts.
