We are just about to order roman blinds for our house and I am really undecided as to whether to have them inside or outside the window reveal.
Inside will be cheaper but I didnt think it would block out as much light (around the edges).
We wont be having curtains.
What would you choose and why?

I have seen both (brother has them outside, MIL has then inside).

Personally, I prefer them inside. BUT if the main purpose is to block out as much light as possible, outside is the way to go.

Not roman, but I have blinds on the inside of the reveal and it drives me mad that so much light gets in around them. Rental, so can't help it, but if you want a room nice and dark it's just not possible.

We have roman blinds that are outside the reveal. We liked the look of inside better but thought too much light would come through.

Unfortunately, a lot of light still gets in at the sides and I really wish we had gone with curtains. We also had many problems with our supplier. Only one of our seven blinds is the correct length which is why so much light gets in. Big costly mistake on our (my) part.

We took over the farm and the house my ILs lived in - we have them both inside and out because aparently MIL couldn't make up her mind!! Outside for blocking light, but they look better inside.

I made DD's to fit inside the reveal, but they go really close to the glass and because we have aluminium windows, there's a 3cm frame around the glass so they're pretty much light proof.

The only problem with too close to the glass is that in winter (with unheated bedrooms) they can get wet from the glass, so I have to watch the ventilation.

You're ugly and you smell like cheese.
Inside IMO. They look neater and overall usually suit the windows and rooms better.

You will get light bleeding in with just about any blind or curtain you get, inside or outside, it just happens. Even heavy curtains you can get light coming in at the top unless you cover that with a pelmet, have tracks running around to the walls, have them touch the floor and so on. It's going to happen, so pick what looks best and is most functional.

Whoever installed them should have set them further away from the window for that exact reason.

We have block out romans inside, DD1's room cops all day sun but full sun in the morning her room is still dark with the blinds down, the installer told us if you have them outside you still get sun through the gap between the reveal and the blind itself. I think they look neater inside as well.

I think outside looks fine personally, but inside is better for thermal properties it's just a pain that you do get the light around the edges.

Go with what you like. You are the one having to look at them more than anyone else.

We have them inside & I don't really noptice the light around the edges. You could get curtains for either sides?
