Hi,
We have had ongoing health issues with DS. He was born at 37w6d due to IUGR and weighed only 2.2kgs. He has severe reflux and laryngomalacia. We have seen an ENT, respiratory specalist and paed, as well as having a sleep study done to check for sleep apnea. He is on a huge dose of both losec and motilium for his reflux and we are seeing very little change. Today I took him to the CHN for his 4 month check and he seems to have stopped growing. He has dropped from the 25th percentile in all areas to the 10th for weight and length, and 3rd for head. So we seem to have 2 issues....he isnt gaining weight anymore, and his head isnt growing. The CHN seems concerned now as from what I understand they dont worry if a baby is small, but once they start dropping percentiles its a concern. Also with his fontanelle...again early closing is ok, if the head keeps growing. But its not! So now i am worried its a problem. Has anyone else had this before? I am after good and bad stories, I believe knowledge is power so I'd like to know what we are facing. |

My son was off the top of the chart for length and weight, but his head was 37th and started dropping. He also had a very small anterior fontanelle which looked like it was closing early. We just did regular monitoring and he got to 5 mo before the fontanelle closed which paed said was ok. His head also grew and tracked along the curve so we are just watching still.
The things the paed said which made me feel better were that the head measurements are such a fine difference, and it's easy to make an error particularly the one at birth with everything else going on, and also to look at the parents heads. Mine is really small too (I notice it in photos and hat size). Hope your son turns the corner for you soon. |
