hey all we have so many people asking what can we buy u what can we buy u. normally i hate assigning gifts but if i dont then im gonna end up with too many of the same thing.
my question is what was the best gift u were given or what is the thing that is often forgotten?
we have the major things like
pram
car seat
cot and bassinet
highchair
and already a lot of clothes

any advice or ideas on things u got and thought "omg of course! i forgot about this" or "yay a ____ i need this!"

But tbh the best gift was my MIL arriving about 4pm most afternoons with dinner cooked. It was a lifesaver in those early weeks. I actually forgot to eat the first 2 days I was home from hospital!

The best gift I received at my baby shower was a medicine kit put together for me by a friend who is a doctor. It was a large lunchbox and in it there was: thermometer, nail scissors, booger sucker (I'm sure they have a nicer name than that - lol), baby paracetamol, baby Nurofen, small saline thingys, small bandage, low-allergy band-aids, cotton balls/buds, Lansinoh, Amolin, Bepanthen, baby-friendly sunscreen, baby-friendly insect repellent, Vicks, small ice pack x2, small wheat bag, hydralite sachets... um, I think that was about it. It has been the best thing EVER. Most of it didn't get a workout until DS was a bit older, but there have been so many times when I thought, gee I need a XXX, and bam, there it was.

Other ideas:
Higher price points:
- a good thermometer
- a good carrier (eg Ergo)
- a vaporiser (for when they get a cough)

Lower price point (things that are handy and you don't mind having multiples of):
- hats
- small tupperware containers
- cloth terry squares
- face washers
- towels
- wet bags
- anything from that list in my medicine kit

A baby thermometer, we didn't even think to buy one ourselves

Lots of the consumable stuff - baby lotion and bath stuff, bum cream, nappies, that kind of thing

Or ask for woolies/coles vouchers so you can stock up on stuff later.

Books!! You won't 'need' them when they're little but when they're a bit older and like to be read to you can never have enough!

Yeah Id agree with the medicinal stuff too, my mum got me a basket with all the creams, cotton wool balls, sudocream, bonjella, nurofen, baby toothbrush and stuff i needed at 3am and there it was... Im thinking about doing the same basket type thing for a friend having her first in a couple of months....

A good thermometer, I bought a few but they were innacurate and I couldnt keep DS still for the 20 seconds it took under the arm so i got a braun 1 second ear one for $70 at chemist warehouse, its FABULOUS!!!!

Hey guys i havnt received this gift as yet but what my parents do for each of their grandkids is arrange an account at the local chemist. So when you need something for the baby for the first couple of months its already payed for. Also mum has started another tradition, she makes a quilt for the new addition.
