Good idea of including a starting picture, SC. I will see if I can get one today and put it up. original.gif

ETA- I am totally excited for a big beautiful bump and the normal weight gain that comes with pregnancy. I just want to ensure I stay as healthy as possible including my weight. I don't need to be super skinny, will happily gain the required amount to ensure a healthy pregnancy, but don't want pregnancy to become an excuse to go overboard and gain too much weight. I am really not a very weight focused person, but it is a part of my health and I need to stay ontop of it.

This is exactly my sentiments, too. I am so glad to have someone else who "gets it".

Great thread original.gif

I am NOT going to put on 30+kgs this time around. I started at a good weight with DS1 and ballooned sad.gif I didn't really lose much before falling pregnant with DS2. When he was born, I was 115kgs sad.gif I've managed to get this down to 73.5kg (yay!) and am happy with this starting weight.

I have been exercising daily (apart from the last 2 weeks due to not feeling so great) and eating well. I'm hoping to keep this up for the whole pregnancy. (fingers crossed!)

Eeeeek I just worked out my BMi. Last time I did this I was "healthy" now I just had to muck around with conversions to get my height into ft and in and my weight into pounds. Came out at 30.4 which is just over the overweight threshold into obsese class 1 which I am not all all surprised with.

I have the same thyroid autoimmune as Springchickadee. I have never had any dietary advice and am not on a restricted diet. I always found weight hard to lose and have considered myself on the "chubby" side but that was when I was 67 kgs and first fell pregnant with DD (already felt fat as I had gone up to 67 from being 60 6 months before) put on 17kg in pregnancy and ended up at 84kg. within 5 weeks I had lost 16 of those kgs because my thyroid went under active and wa 68kg. Then I started to gain a few back and feel like sh*t (DD was 3 months) and hey presto the thyroid is under active and there the cycle begins. It was still under active when DD was 10 months and we came to Singapore. I was then 74 or 76 kg can't remember. Since moving here in the heat and returning to work I have gone up to 82 and I can't describe how revolting I feel. My diet is ok (same as I have ever eaten) I drank wine but less than Sydney but I do NO exercise. Started getting up at 6am to run/walk but sprained my ankle in Jan.

So starting weight with this one is 82 therefore I will NOT be putting on another 17kgs. Problem at the moment with the queasiness is I feel like hot chips for lunch and I am always starving!!!!!

I will start some gentle walking at 12 weeks .....

Yay so glad someone started this... I am rather overweight at 173cm tall and 117kg's. At the moment as i live in a regional town if my BMI goes over 40 by my first antenatal appointment ( done here at 20 weeks ) i am forced to travel to brisbane several weeks before my due date and have bubs down there. i am not keen on being away from family.

When i first found out i was pregnant i was at 120kg's with a BMI of 39 so in the last 4 weeks i have lost 3 kilo's. ( mostly due to healthy food cravings and some morning sickness ) While i am realistic about not loosing a tonne of weight during the pregnancy i figure if i dont gain at all then i actually have lost some of MY weight.

Well, I've lost more weight an dteh bloating eased off. I can't figure it out. I'm even sneaking in a regular Gloria jeans Iced Chocolate everyday and fun sized chocolate each night (usually even this would balloon my weight). I think I'm around 2.5-3kgs lighter then when I started but I cant exactly remember my start weight. maybe it's my smaller dinner sizes? or the metformin I'm on? or maybe my thyroid is behaving. whatever it is I'll enjoy it until the real weight gain begins.

I am very interested in what you did Spring Chickadee, with your Naturopath. I believe I have thyroid issues also, but my thyroid is not diseased as such.

I see a fertility/Endo Naturopth, Endocrinologist, fertility specialist and Chiro. I also saw a psychologist after my 3rd MC for a few appointment to get my head back to being positive. I am a very organised and thorough person!

As for what I did with my naturopath, on top of the thyroid issues my insulin was too high, Iron/Vit D too low and i still felt exhausted despite my thyroid being officially in range. Initially in addition to my meds and suppliments I went on a diet that was no carb/sugar/artificial sugar/ preservatives/soy/goitrogins/alcohol/caffine/Iodine . I lost the weight and got a great boost of energy and mood. I think for many that diet would be far to extreme though and I saw the naturopath/nutritionist almost weekly given how full on it was. But the naturo was only one of the specialists that was treating me so I think the combination of everything helped.

charlottesmum04 I'm sure you can gain your own advice/research but I think your plan sounds good. staying under BMI 40 sounds like a good idea for your health and not having to go to brissy. Have you got a nutritionist or Dr you can go over it with?

Franno- It can be so easy to gain weight when you thyroid is out. I'm still in shock mine didn't pile straight back on. Hopefully your weight gain will be minimum this time around. how is your thyroid sitting now? hypo/hyper or just right? I am craving carbs like crazy lately too. Hopefully when the MS subsides the cravings will too.
I also find drinking 2-3L of water a day makes you feel fuller.

Aqua lime- sound like you are off to a great start! I have never been able to keep up with daily exercise so my hat goes off to you.

I tend to spend half my weekend doing sorting/housework/renovating. I'm having to slow down now with the heavy lifting and using chemicals or paints. but I'm still managing to keep myself busy enough to get some decent exercise.

I'm a bit worried, as my body isn't allowing me to eat much.
I haven't had dinner all this week, and when I had lunch, I'd eat half a sandwich and go off the idea. Today I got so upset with it, that it was like trying to eat with a lump in your throat from crying. I did a full work shift having not had breakfast or lunch, and when I made myself have a pie at 3.30pm, it made me queasy and I didn't finish it. Now I don't feel like dinner.

My life is fabulous, and I'm chuffed to bits, being pregnant. I had to say that first.

Now: when I was pregnant with DS1, I was an anorexic 18yr old, who had to force food down for the whole pregnancy. It was constantly reinforced that I had ruined my life, and I was thoroughly depressed.

Any amount of me not being able to eat during pregnancy REMINDS me of those times so long ago. DP says he feels powerless and doesn't know what to say, but even that let me know he cared. He's an angel.

I hope we can all support each other, as not gaining (excess) weight in the first place is always easier than taking it off later. What to expect when yr expecting, says 10-15kgs is enough. I'm going to try to stick to that. original.gif

I am glad that this thread is here, I really need to stay on a straight path with this pregnancy.

I am probably the heaviest person here with a BMI of 48 and I just wish I had done something about it before getting pregnant again! My baby bump isn't as noticeable as other peoples and while I would LOOOOOVE to be a part of the birth centre or home birth program with my local hosp I am immediately excluded based on my BMI which makes me really sad but at the end of the day I really have no one to blame but myself.

I did well when pregnant with my DD (the same weight as I am now). I only gained 6 kgs the entire pregnancy and actually lost 2 kgs in the first 14 weeks. I didn't do anything special to keep my weight down and didn't alter my diet so it was basically a fluke. I am hoping that this time if I can stay on track better I will have better results. I really have so much to lose that I think if I just be healthy with my eating choices, avoid the junk and walk every day that I can lose weight without combrising my or the babies health if that makes sense??

I was induced due to high BP with my DD at 39 weeks so am really hoping to avoid an induction this time because I found it to be a horrible experience. I am already on medication for my BP this time around because it has been sitting around at 130/90 the past few weeks. I think that has been a real motivator for me to really look after myself better. I would love to know what its like to go into spontaneous labour.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to all those who have joined the thread since I last posted. I am glad to see we seem to have created a little bit of momentum.

I have managed to survive Easter intact. I have lost 100g since last week (so basically am holding steady). I have decided to make a little record of my starting weight, and weight gain to date, which I will update each week. I am 11 weeks today (by my dates, which I will be sticking with for now, as the dating scan was only 2 days different).

Pre-pregnancy weight: 91.3kg
10 weeks: 89.1kg
11 weeks: 89.0kg
Weekly gain: -0.1kg
Total Gain: -2.3kg

My goal is to stay under 90kg for as long as possible, and at least until the end of the 1st trimester.

I weighed in again yesterday, at 12 weeks. I was much heavier than last week, but I think a lot of that was because of a huge dinner on Wednesday night (was a special occasion and we went out)

Pre-pregnancy weight: 91.3kg
11 weeks: 89.0kg
12 weeks: 89.6kg
Weekly gain: 0.6kg
Total Gain: -1.7kg

My morning sickness is starting to ease off a bit, so the plan is for Monday to mark the start of a new healthy eating plan. To start with, I am hoping to get back to oats for breakfast.

Anyone else want to update with how they are going?

I was 91.8 when i first weighed about 5 weeks pregnant. I'm 8 and a half weeks and sitting on 90. Like you Andy I'm trying to stay around the 90 mark as long as possible.

This is a great thread!
