My first labour was LONG. I can't quite remember now but prelabour (strong but irregular contractions, enough to keep me awake and breathing through them) was 45+hrs and established/active labour was about 15hours. DS was also posterior for a good part of the labour & didn't fully engage until well into established labour, he didn't engage at all during pregnancy.

I you had a similar drawn out experience how did your second/third labour progres?

my second labour was like that but my third was super fast and easy, less than an hour. It was great.

My first was 38hours, 16 hours of active labour, epidural, vacuum extraction. Hell.

Number two was 6 hours of active labour, intervention free waterbirth born 3 hours after arriving at the birth centre. Much better!

My midwife (who delivered both my boys) actually instructed my DH to overrule me when he thought it was time to go to the birth centre with my second, as she knew I would assume I still had hours and hours to go based on my first birth. She was right.

1st-71-ish hours (mostly contractions that came and went, DS had a huge head and therefore my labour went no where, even though the contraction i was getting were extremely painful)

2nd-24 hours pre labour (1-2 contractions an hour, and with the help of panadiene i could sleep through them), then 8 hours labour (rocked up to the hospital 7cm dialated, had DD 2 hours later).

Thats good to hear, my first was like ops, I spent 30 hours in the delivery suite, 16 to get to 3 cms and 14 on the synto drip before having a Caesar. I might have gotten there in the end myself but despite all the synto I had no contractions at all after pushing for 2 hours.

I am hoping for a vbac but things will have to happen a lot more quickly this time around, no synto allowed either.

Chelara & L&E I feel your pain!! I too spent about 36 hours in hospital and a good 11hrs or more on the syntocin drip. I had an epidural about 8 hours before DS was born at the obs insistence as I was philysically and emotionally exhaused and he was concerned if I didn't get some rest I'd be unable to push. He was totally right & while I could push somewhat I was pretty exhausted & DS was born via vacuum in the end. It was not fun & the idea of doing it again is far from appealing. It's reassuring to know if might not be a repeat performance though!

I have 7.5 weeks to go, will let you know. I still want to labour though gestational diabetes this time around so not sure I will get the chance

OP my first labour was Hell. I had prelabour for 2 days then 24 hours of labour...cant remember the active labour part though. I pushed for hours and he was also posterior and got stuck, failed epi but I got him out in the end.

2nd labour I had a few niggling pains throughout the day but only a few made me stop by about 5pm. I told DH to get some rest at 7 saying it could be a loong night. We ended up at the hosi 1 hour before DS2 was born, drug and intervention free. 6 hours of labout probably only about 4 hours active. It was an amzing experience...dont ask about my 3rd lol

52 hour marathon of stuff ups for #1 (she was transverse and they didn't freakin even realize!)

6 hrs for #2

2 hrs for #3

4 hrs for #4.
