I'm currently 36 weeks with my second pregnancy..
My baby is currently measuring 2weeks less then what he is expected by midwives that he should be. Completely different feeling to my first- daughter - 3years.. Born 7lbs 11oz.. Three days overdue. I have had what seems the quickest pregnancy ever, with only four weeks to go, baby's head is engaged already, and I'm experiencing the lovely Braxton hickses, which I didn't get with my first pregnancy. I just have this huge gut feeling my little man will be here early, I wouldn't mind if he comes now or two weeks late... I just wanted to know stories on how different your first to second labour was... My first labour was 1 hour 30mins.. So I'm worried I won't make it to the hospital. I know every pregnancy is different.. But this feeling in myhead won't go away that these Braxton hicks are here for the start. |

My first labour was one hour and 20 minutes from first contraction to baby in my arms. My second was one hour and 45 minutes. And my third was also one hour and 45 minutes so all pretty comparable. Good luck and I hope you make it to the hospital!

Preg 1. 38+6 induced for medical reasons. Arrived 39 weeks. 33 hour labour. No BH beforehand. Cervix not favourable before induction. Although I was having contractions for hours, I would count 'real' labour as being about 4 hours?
Preg 2. 40+9 induction. Induced at midday. Labour started 3ish. Delivery at 4.30pm. Again while in labour beforehand, I would count 'real' labour from 4ish - 4.30. Much much faster in my case. |

1st labour - 41+3 no idea I was in labour and arrived at the hospital for my induction to find I was all ready 6cm dilated. Things went pretty pear shaped after that with a big posterior baby and no relief from the contractions which I started feeling not long after that. 13 hour labour.
2nd labour - 39 week induction due to being even bigger than first. Fantastic labour. 4 hours. 3rd labour - 37 weeks, induced due to IUGR. waters broken at 6.30pm, DD arrived at 8.32pm...very quick! |

My first labour was 2h45 with lots of braxton hicks in the week leading up to it. Ah, and 2 days over.
Second labour was 1h45 with no BH and 4 days early. We set off for the hospital as soon as i got my first contractions with Elise as i was worried about not making it too. MY plan had been to call an ambulance if i went into labour when my husband was at work. In the end we were in the hospital for just over an hour before she arrived. |

Almost identical to you, my first DD arrived on her due date in one hour and 30 mins from very first vague twinge to delivery (in the back of the car)
My second daughter arrived 3 weeks early in 38 minutes from waters breaking (no contractions until a couple of minutes later) to holding her. Have a plan ready on who is taking you to hospital if your partner is not there and leave at the very first sign of anything. Although my second labour was quicker than my first, I did make it to the hospital this time. So for me, who had a genuinely quick first labour, the second was even quicker (abour half the time). I always laugh at some people who say they have qucik labours. They don't know what qucik is!! |

True for me....after the struggle to get #1 out, my OB promised me #2 would be quicker and easier.
I was in labour for 24 hours from go to whoa (3 hours 2nd stage) with DS1 culminating with a forceps delivery...ahhhh the fun, the memories For #2, it took about 6 hours total labour with a vacuum extraction and 45 mins 2nd stage. 2nd degree tear a d fully healed after 2 weeks. My OB advised me not to delay getting to hospital with #2 as in his opinion, it ladies that had long 1st labours and just assume #2 will be the same that get caught having babies in cars or on the side of the road. Hope this helps and good luck!! ETA: both were 1 day late This post has been edited by Fennel Salad: 01/04/2012, 08:26 PM |
