A Cold, Throat infection and Upper Respitory Tract Infection.

DS has all of the above, and was put on AB's yesterday by the GP. The GP said he would be fine for school tomorrow, but I doubt it.

I have an hour long appt tomorrow with my counsellor, this is the first appt I have had, as it has taken from DH death until now (nearly 2 months) just to get an appt, so I can't really change it and if I did I would a waiting until probably June for the first appt (which would be nearly 6 months after the death) and no I dont have anyone that can look after him either.

So what would you be doing make him more comfortable and also to keep the appt.

Edited to add- He has bursts of running around and then goes flat and just wants cuddles etc

As in taking you son with you to the appointment? Does he have a games system he can take with him (Ds, PSP or a phone/ipod with games) Ask him what he wants, if my kids have to come with me to something thats boring for them, they get to choose what they take.

If you mean so he can feel better, then dose him up with the meds & panadol and perhaps some soother type "lollies" to help.

Mainly so he can feel better. Only soother type lollies he will take are the eucaltypus ones from the supermarket, but they are loaded with sugar too.

Do you have an iPhone, iPad or similar you could take with you? Put a movie on it, pack a blanket and snack and tuck him up at your app somewhere.

Good luck.

Also so I can try and get him to sleep in his own bed, he has spent 2 nights in mine, and as he covers the entire bed, I get next to no sleep.

Just take him with you and give him a few books to read if he's home from school. Can he wait in the waiting room? I don't know how old your DS is but it might not be good for either of you if he is in the room listening to the conversation.

He is 5, so there is no way he will wait in the waiting room on his own for an hour.

Agree with a PP that a waiting room or similar would be better but under the circumstances you need to do what you can. Hopefully you can make a follow up appointment for not long after.

Honestly if it was me I would cancel the appt and stay home with him. I would also wait until tomorrow to decide though as they do tend to bounce back fast.

What and wait another 2 months for counselling which will bring upto almost 6 months since he went? There would be absolutely no point in going at all then.

If it's in the morning, then perhaps he can go to school and you can pick him up after the appt or at least go and make sure he's ok.

Or just take him and wing it. The first appt will probably mainly be telling the story so you can at least talk about the basics.

All the best!
