Hi,
Just wondering what the done thing is about attending kids' birthday parties with sick kids. My twins have runny noses but are otherwise well. Should we go or not? TIA.

I'm voting don't go.
The parents of the birthday child won't thank you if your children pass a bug on to her baby. They might SEEM healthy but some kids are more robust and show fewer symptoms of bugs while still being contagious.

I seriously considered cancelling my daughters first birthday because of a cousin with a runny nose. That particular cousin NEVER shows any symptoms other than a runny nose so we never know for certain if she is contagious. If my daughter picks up one of those bugs I am lucky to get one hours sleep a night until she is over it.

ring the mum and ask them?

I think if lots of guests are going and you are distant rellies or neighbours or something then don't go.

but if it is a tiny party, and you are integral guests - like the only other kids going, then I would probably go - as it may ruin the party if you pull out. but if you ring the mum she can make that call for you.

Clear runny or green runny? Do they have a temp?

My DS2 has a clear runny nose offen, it's allergy related. If I keep him home every time, I'd never get out of the house! I agree with PP, ring them mum and ask her.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately mum's not answering, I presume busy with preparations, and I have to decide in the next hour or so!! Clear runny nose, a lot of it, but no temp. I usually don't go to things when they're like this as I hate my kids getting sick from others and wish that others didn't bring their sick kids everywhere but just wondering if I'm being too cautious? Thanks.

There will always be some kid with a runny nose, give them some Demazin or something, and go. Unless they are actually sick, I wouldn't worry.
