Archibald Prize Finalists

So do you like the winning piece ? I do, can see why it won.

My favourite though is the Vincent Fantauzzo - Kimbra (the build up) piece, although, I'd love it to be of me lol (in terms of having it up in my house).

I highly highly recommend taking your kids to see these in real life, photos don't do most of the pieces justice. Its really great to go and talk to them about what they like, why they like it, what feelings they think are being painted, and to look at the detail up close as to how much work goes in to these piece of art.

You're ugly and you smell like cheese.
I like it, often I'm not a fan of the winner but this year I don't think it's too bad. Usually I like the packers prize a bit more but this year it doesn't jump out at me. As usual there are a couple of finalists that I don't really think should have made the cut, but there are some I prefer, I like Leslie Rice's piece and the Kimbra portrait too. Adam Cullen's piece cracks me up because it's just ugly (which I like for some reason, lol) and of course I'm jealous of all of the entrants who can reproduce photorealistic portraits, damn them and their talent!

Just a note for other members that this is a link to The Age website, which always jams up my computer.

I don't like it, a bit too much like a caricature.

My war paint is Sharpie ink
My favourite is Rhys Lee: Self portrait with shiny cardboard armour but I think I could enjoy gazing at the winner too.

I watched Australian Story the other night on Margaret Olley. Came away with a larger appreciation of art forms that I sometimes don't 'get' and also of the people involved in producing events such as the Archibald Prize.
