I've seen many posters over the years claim that EB is like high school.

I can't see it myself. My high school was all about which group you belonged to and people rarely spoke to those from other groups. Here it's a free for all.

Besides which, I worked hard at high school and behaved myself. Here I do no work at all and have been known to let off the odd stink bomb in the library.

So, how about you? Do you find EB to be like your high school experience?

What fresh hell is this?
God no. I am far more diligent on EB than I ever was at high school.

And there's no point in wagging maths class and heading to the cafe for a cappucino and a fag, because I might actually miss something worth hearing!

Good god no. When you leave school and grow up you learn how to be a better, more effective b**ch.
Plus, I haven't seen anyone here in a maroon pencil skirt.
Splits up the back, girls. We all know that the double side split meant you were a slag.

You're ugly and you smell like cheese.
It's more like one particular high school I went to, but generally speaking no, it's like (mostly) adult women on an internet forum. It is what it is. Tounge1.gif (Mostly) adult men on an internet forum is similar, but slightly different too. wink.gif

I don't think you can draw an accurate parallel between internet forums and real life situations.

I think on EB (and most forums) you get out what you put in. If you hang out in the general section (as I do) I don't think you make connections - you are just one of 223,032 poster names. If you are involved in a sub-section forum and regularly post you will probably make more connections.

High schools don't have as many pupils, you could go to school and have no friends but people will still know who you are.

I think you know quite well that people are talking about the ganging-up, nasty b**ches that seem to decend on the occasional thread. I guess you just don't like being called out on it?

It cannot be discussed as a literal analogy, only a fool would think so.

Not for me.
No stapled hems, or skirts so short they could be mistaken for belts here or skipping class to go to the movies.

If you are talking about the in-jokes; friendship groups and bacon lovers, then yes sometimes.

I think the difference here is that everyone can see everyones conversations, whereas at school, the in-jokes were kept within the small circle of friends that you were with.

Its more transparent here and everyone gets a say in every conversation whether the conversations starter likes it or not.

I think what makes it interesting though, is some people, I think, have trouble separating this 'world' to RL sometimes and remembering that EB's 'thoughts' are really only a small snapshot of society.
