I am a second year nursing student @ QUT and am currently thinking of changing to UQ.

Can anyone tell me the course structure? Ie: contact hours per week. Is it lectures & tute's? How many placements etc?

How many days a week are you @ Ipswich & are you at the hospital the rest of the time? Do you get to choose your hospital etc? Is it 5 days a week?

Basically, I'm just trying to see if it would be feasible with a 3 year old.

Thanks
Mel.

Hi There

I'm in my 2nd year of Mid at UQ. So I can only tell you how the mid course is run.

One day is at Ipswich for lectures, 2 days a week at hospital for shifts and one day at the hospital for PBL (problem based learning) which is compulsory (as are the shifts) . With mid you also have to follow through women, they've just changed it to 20 women over the three years.

I would recommend you talk to UQ as you may not get much credit for what you've done as the course is run so differently!

It is hard work, I'm a single mum with an 8 yr old and am working as well , but i make sure that we do lots of fun things together and we're planning on a holiday in Fiji once I finish my degree!!!

Not sure if this has helped, but feel free to ask any questions about the mid course original.gif

Thanks - that does help. I don't think it would be feasible as DS is not yet at school & only does kindy 3 days a week. At the moment, I can fit all my contact hours into 2-3 days.

I do like how you guys are at the hospital every week though (do you stay at the one hospital for your entire course? Or do you get to go to a few different ones?).

Our course has "blocks" of prac - we start out with 2 week blocks progressing to 8 week blocks in year 3 and we rotate to different hospitals. I guess we probably end up doing a similar number of hours in the wards, but ours are in intense clinical blocks whilst you guys are there 2 days a week every week.
