Has anyone been to calm birth classes in Sydney? Any recommendations? Can anyone explain the difference between calm birth and hypnobirth?

I can help you there - both HypnoBirthing and Calm Birth offer really great childbirth preparation. Personally, I undertook HypnoBirthing classes with my first baby and had the most amazing, easy, pain-free labour. I was so overwhelmed by the result, that I have become a HypnoBirthing practitioner and teach other couples. Like Calm Birth it uses relaxation and visualisation, but HypnoBirthing also teaches you and your partner to self hypnotise, directly and deeply. For instance, during my labour, it taught me to make my whole abdomen feel numb and each 25 minutes felt like 5, so amazingly the labour seemed short and painless. And the men love it too because they are so involved and have a clear function. I don't have a particular recommendation for someone in Sydney, as I teach from Melbourne, but it is important to find the right practitioner for you, someone you feel a trusting rapport with, so make sure you have a chat over the phone first to find out what they offer. Good Luck!

Hi
I'm also not in Sydney but here is a link to the register of all of the calmbirth practitioners, there are several in the inner west. http://www.calmbirthregister.com/register/home Hopefully some Sydney mums will be in with some recommendations. Best wishes for a great birth. Kel |

I went to Peter Jackson's calm birth classes in Bowral. I lived in Sydney but it was a lovely relaxing weekend away. I can't speak highly enough of it. I was induced with contractions 3.5 mins apart and rapidly moved to 2 mins lasting 45 seconds. Managed to stay calm and relaxed and achieved a drug free birth.
