DS is four months old and currently smack bang in the middle of this nasty wonder week. He used to self settle, slept well and was happy and smiley all the time.
Now he's the opposite, sleep is all over, he's hard to settle and randomly wakes screaming ten minutes after finally settling (he's never done that before). When awake he seems bored, or is too busy trying to crawl and gets so frustrated that he can't. He constantly rolls to his tummy then whinges, I put him on his back and he does it again, over and over and over!! Is anyone else experiencing this? I need to know we're not alone! |

Yes, and I hate to say it but we went through a very prolonged period of sleep disruption, frequent night wakings and poor day sleeping to boot.
It lasted until he was about 6 months old and the only thing that seemed to help is that we inadvertently started co-sleeping and that stopped the night wakings completely other than one late feed at 3am. It was actually the hardest period I had with DS and worse than the newborn stage even. That period after four months is when some of the most significant cognitive and physical developments are taking place simultaneously hence the fussiness, grumpiness, frustration, unsettledness and disruption to sleep. It nearly broke me but it does pass and you are definitely not alone. |

Nope, you're not alone. DD2 is 16 weeks old today and for the past week has definitely been showing signs of a wonder week. Fun stuff isn't it?
We took her to sleep school when she was 12 weeks old and she had started self settling during the day... I think she's done it once this past week OP I have the Wonder Weeks book and I'm sure I've read somewhere that the fussiness peaks around 17-19 weeks...hang in there! It's nearly over and then you can enjoy another 'sunny' period (before the next WW starts |

Oh yes you are definitely not alone! MonkeyBoy's sleep has gone to poo and he's getting incredibly frustrated at wanting to crawl but not being able to. To compound matters, he wants to roll as well, but hasn't quite worked out the last little flip from side to tummy.

Yup my DS is just under 4 months and last week his night sleep turned to poo, and this week he has been driving me up the wall with his day sleeps. He used to be fine in the hug a bub doing at least 2x2hr sleeps and 1 x 1 hour, and we were just starting to get him into a cot during a day - now, who fricken knows!
He also keeps rolling onto his tummy ALL DAY and screaming his nut off because he can't crawl. Today I was carrying him around the baby store, when he started reaching for dad. So I gave him to dad and 'waaahhhhhh'. Lastly he has developed the most horrible screeching sound which is just chatter. He seems proud of being able to 'talk', but I am sure our neighbours think that I am skinning piglets in here! |

Yep, Wonder Week 19 was the worst. That's when I first found the WW iPhone app/book existed actually - in a desperate Google search for '19 weeks old baby won't settle'!
Pleased to report the WWs get easier the older they get as they learn new coping mechanisms. And the cranky patches generally only lasts a couple of weeks, though sometimes more. |

It's such a relief knowing that a) it's normal and b) this too will pass.

Thank you all for making me feel better, it's nice to know I'm not suffering alone!! I have a 2 year old DD and I can't remember going through this with her, I think I blocked it from my memory!
I hope we all have our happy babies back soon |
