Hi,

We were informed this afternoon that our son finds music class at three yr old preschool overwhelming to the point where the carers have suggested he eat lunch in the babies room rather than participate. They have also asked permission to get in behavioural support.

Has anyone experienced behavioural support? What do they do? What does it mean?

Im quite upset and anxious, wondering what it means for my ds. Can they diagnose something like anxiety, or does it mean they are concerned he has autism or something?

He is mostly quite emotional about things, that ie that is what has triggered this request from his carers.

We have just assumed he is a sensitive soul and a little young for his age...

Thanks!

Just a thought, does your son have any other sensory issues? IS it only music? How is he with loud noise? Have you had his hearing checked?

Fine with loud noises ( like a bang, or a constant loud noise), hearing checked last week and was normal. He doesnt like birthday parties ( example of a noisy busy environment), he takes himself away to a quit place and plays, or cries, but is fine with one or two friends at a time or quieter activities at preschool.

I would seek clarity surrounding what information the centre has tried to give you. By the sounds of it they haven't given you enough information. You need to know what they think is so bad that he needs to be taken away from the group. To me that is a drastic action to take when it is a 3 year old.
Once you have this I would consider seeing a Development Paediatrician and having your DS assessed by an expert in child development.
Do you have any concerns with your DS development?

Just that he seems a little slower than his friends understanding things and articulating them. He has a 6 month speach delay, but that is comming along well.

Sorry about my spelling am on ipad!
