My eldest is about to turn eight and when she went to preschool 3 year old kinder at least around here wasn't very common (and from memory not funded?). Now I see and hear a lot of people talking abotu gettign their kid into three year old kinder. Is it really such a big thing? What are the advantages? I think a good preschool program is very important but is two years of it really necessary?

We have put our 3yo in kinder for a few reasons.

1/ because hes never been cared for by anyone else and wee want to see how he coped with this.
2/ we wanted him to have some other influences other then us.
3/ we wanted him to meet and interact with more children.

we've since found out that he goes a bit crazy in amongst a whole big group of kids (class size is about 20). This is something really good to know now rather than having only 12 months before he is supposed to start school. We will see how he goes in the next term but it allows us to consider what we need to look for in a 4yo kinder and a school that will suit our child a bit better

All good reasons. original.gif My little one does go to childcare one afternoon a week (just started) and while I would choose a dedicated preschool centre for four year old kinder (over a chreche kinder program) for various reasons. I'm not sure if it is worth it for three year old kinder. Although with the difficulty I'm having finding partime childcare so I can study maybe it would be worth it. happy.gif

Why would you choose a 'dedicated' preschool over a 'crèche' preschool program?
