At 12months my DD can only really say 'Dada'. She says 'awww' when patting babies to sleep and has said 'Mama' a few times, but doesn't say it to me.
With my first DD, I know she said at least ten words by this age (woof woof, more, car, yum, baby, etc) So out of interest, what is your little one saying at the moment? |

Eeek. My 11.5 month old DD only says "mum", "dad" and "nanna". I didn't realise they should know other words at 1 year old?!

nearly Miss One can say "Mumma", "Ne-ne" (this indicates her sister), "Dadda", "No", "Upupupupu" (this means pick me up), "Top" (this means stop), "Mowa" (this means "more") and did I mention "No", "No", "No", and "No"?

Eeek. My 11.5 month old DD only says "mum", "dad" and "nanna". I didn't realise they should know other words at 1 year old?! Every baby says different things Originally I thought DD2 wasn't saying enough, and now I realise that DD1 was actually saying too much! |

I'm finding DS has fewer words than DD at the same age too. He says Dada, Dah-dah (for Claudia), Baba (which seems to have numerous meanings), Mama only when he's cranky, and occasionally Rafa

I have a chatterbox on my hands! DD is 13 months, she says Mum, papa, bird, hat, ball, milk, nahhh (no) up, down, nana, popa, after, wow, go and umm ma! She can tell you what a dog says, a duck, a cow and a sheep.
I just filmed her to send to our family overseas and she laughs at herself when she watches it |

Hi Op,
My DS is 14 months and has been saying 'Dada' for a while but only to my DH or about him (ie. In context) for the last few days. He does say 'Mum-mum' but not to me, just when he is cranky LOL! But he does undertand a lot and nods or shakes his head to answer questions. Just an aside, when my other DS was a baby he wasn't saying 'mum' or 'dad' at 17 months and then he came with 'I want to go outside now'!!!!! And he hasn't stopped talking since LOL! He also never went through the mispronouciation stage with speaking, he just spoke the words correctly from the beginning. So I guess what I am saying is, they are all different, but they seem to get there in the end HTH |
