My DS2 was only saying "dad" at 12months old, he is 18months now and saying lots of words.

DD is 16 months and she only says Mummy, Daddy, Ma (Max her brother), Elmo, car, botbot, cat, yummy and shoe! I've told DH his credit card could be in for a future hammering due to the last one.

DD is 11 months old and can say mumma, dada and also daddy, nan-nan, popa, and knows who these people are. She also says heeeyyy (like for hello), nah for no, yeah for yes (like 'did you do a poo?' 'yeah' lol), ba in which she means ta and uses it when she wants something, and also goy which she says when she wants to be picked up and go somewhere.

At 12 months DD said quite a few words, but she would hone in on one word and say it repetitively for a week, then onto the next word next week, and you wouldnt hear the first word again! I think about a month later her speech really improved!
At 12 months she said Mum, Dad, Yes, No, Nanna, Duck, Dog, Cat, grrr (for lion), whee!, Oh-oh, yum, baby, hello, bye and understood them, but you couldnt always guarantee she would say each particular thing if you wanted her to, only if she felt like it.
