Is it okay for babies to have chocolate? We are encouraging a 'non-chocolate' Easter this year but as it's my babies first one, is it okay for her to try an Easter egg?

I'm sure she (and you!!!) will be just fine if she has an easter egg or two... Assuming she is one-ish not tiny.

I wouldn't bother Tasha, there's no need and she wont feel like she's missing out or anything. Maybe she can try hot cross bun or something instead.

I wouldn't- too young and why give her something that isn't really good for her when she's got no idea about it?
Why not give her a cute little egg cup (Maxwell williams have lovely Easter cups) as a small gift with a boiled egg in it?
Hot cross buns are a better option too imo as per pp.. Enjoy your first Easter together.

On Easter Sunday when I was growing up we all had soft boiled eggs and soldiers for breakfast (well we did every Sunday) but on Easter Sunday your egg was wearing little paper bunny ears and had your face drawn on it!

As pp said this is the perfect oportunity to her a lovely egg cup (I still use my bunnikins one every week!) that can last a lifetime.

Way more exciting than the chocolate.

Ignorance is not a point of view.
DS was nine months for his first Easter. My uncle gave him an egg bigger than his head! Lol. I ate it for him. unsure.gif

Because I am a good and loving mother and I didn't want to expose him to the horror of chocolate... Yeah, yeah, that's it. yyes.gif Not because I am a greedy, egg-lovin' piglet.

Honestly, DS had no idea about Easter. I like the idea of a soft-boiled egg and some toast soldiers. original.gif

I wouldn't bother either, even though it probably wouldn't hurt. Do you really want her to know what chocolate is at such an early age? Why?

I can't understand giving babies chocolate. They don't care about it (until you feed it to them), they certainly don't need it, and it seems to be more for the adults benefit ... "oh look how cute they are, enjoying their chocolate!". I don't get it.

Sorry, I'm biased, I'm trying to keep my 2 yr old chocolate-free this easter. Instead, I've got her some little plaster eggs that we are going to have fun painting together. It doesn't have to be about chocolate to make it a special time for them.

I wouldn't bother either. My boys are 3 and 1 and haven't had chocolate eggs yet.

DS1 (3yrs) isn't really into sweets which is great. He is old enough now to understand, so this year I will be making reduced sugar ginger bread shaped like bunnies and eggs. I will probably get DS1 to help make/decorate them.

DS2 (1yr) would eat chocolate in a heart beat if I let him but he still doesn't know he is missing out on anything so he's not getting chocolate either.

There is plenty of time in the future for those things. How ever if you do decide to give her some it won't be the end of the world. I wouldn't give her much though. It really depends on how limited her diet is usually. Does she eat rich or sugaring things usually?

Just a further thnig to think about - it's not that unusual for babies to react badly to chocolate - my nephew had a mild allergic reaction the first time he had it and it was very unpleasant and stressful for all involved. Is a trip to the hospital due to a first time food really how you want to spend a special family day? I'm with the PP's - a boiled egg and cute egg cup is a lovely idea.
