I use Avent bottles with the teat for thick formulas found that one to be the best (I tried a lot). I was using karicare AR but had to change as DD had lactose intolerance as well. So I now use S26 lactose free gold and karicare food thickener which I can up the dose as much as I like and lessen it as she has got older. However if you can I'd stick to the AR formula because the karicare thickener is $16 alone and you will need to buy it every week.

I recommend pre-making bottles as this works better with reflux in my experience. If you don't the flow is too fast at the start and doesn't thicken in time in the stomach so they throw up more. Doctors recommend small amounts more often so less is in the stomach and upright positions. Also solids at 4 months this helped a bit I only did this once a day as I didn't want to use medication.

Almost 7 months now it's getting better I don't have to use as much thickener just get random blobs of sick dripping throughout the day and the occasional big chuck up.

Hope this helps original.gif

I can't help from the formula perspective, but my refluxy baby (on losec) would vomit fountains too. I would feed her sitting in a quite upright position, then make sure she was sitting upright after a feed too. She would also be most comfortable before she could sit independently in the Baby Bjorn or Ergo carrier and then from around 3.5 months, I had her in a Bumbo when she wasn't on my lap or in my carrier.

I agree, try to stretch out his actual feed so he's not taking too much too quickly and also make sure he has a good seal around the teat. The time where my DD didn't latch on properly was when she gulped air and had worse reflux after the feed. My friend whose daughter also had severe reflux from birth was advised by Karitane to use a dummy. The sucking motion can help. I know it's more work for you in terms of washing and sterilising, but what about making him 50ml feeds and feeding him more regularly. I know my BF baby liked to feed hourly to two hourly because the milk would help with the pain of the reflux acid coming back up her food pipe.

I certainly found that my daughter's reflux started to settle around the 6 month mark. I started her on solids at 5.5 months, she liked the Apple/Pear and cinnamon rafferty's garden pouch. Farex etc was an epic fail (and still is).

Good luck OP. I don't miss those days. It's so hard to watch your baby suffer. Just know there is light at the end of the tunnel.
