Good afternoon ladies,

Yesterday I decided to do a pregnancy test and after the 3 minute wait I just had a really quick glance and threw it in the bin. This morning as I was emptying the bin I has another look and there was a really faint positive line. I thought I saw a negative result yesterday but as I looked quickly now I'm not too sure. So I thought I would test again using the same test. I know you cannot do this but I just wanted to see what would happen. The positive line became a little darker.

My period is not due until wednesday so I am going to test again on Thursday.

I really do not know what to think. I'm definitely not going to get my hopes up. But what do you ladies think? Has anyone ever had a really faint positive line and it was actually negative or positive?

ihad a very faint pos on one test... so DP and i brought 2 other brands to try, as i was freaking out. found the one that shows a + instead of two lines worked best, quickest, easiest to read. but faint pos can def mean pos... so try again

I would consider it a negative result. Anything outside the 10 minutes after you take the test may not be accurate as faint dye lines can show up on them after they have been sitting for a while and they are not intended to be read after the 10 minutes. I would also completely disregard any change after using it again as it is a used test and will not work the same a second time.

Best bet is to get another test.

OP when you say you used the same test do you mean you used the same brand or actually reused the initial test?

Firstly you cannot rely on the result from the first test as you didnt check it accurately within the timeframe, next morning check is not reliable.
If you retested with another the same I would use that result.
If you re-used the first test stick - forget that results too. I thought everyone knew not to do that? The result would be hightly innacurate. The way i understand it is that you would have already activated the test chemicals etc with your urine, then leaving it overnight it would have dried, further 'ruining' (cant think of a better word) the test.

Unless you get a positive result in the timeframe that the instrutions say (usually 3 - 5 minutes), you have to class it as a negative.

If you get a second line AFTER the suggested timeframe, it is classed as an 'evaporation line', which is usually not a positive result. Google 'evap line on pregnancy tests'...

"Evaporation lines, however, can confound results if tests are not interpreted within the clinically recommended time frame. An evaporation line develops when the urine on the test area begins to dry, leaving a faint, usually colorless line. Evaporation lines appear to show up (or not show up) as a result of the composition of the particular urine specimen - and they may appear on any test regardless of brand"

And definitely do not re-use a test, you CANNOT get an accurate result this way.

But a new test, and read it within the suggested timeframe
