Hand over the chocolate and no one gets hurt
I need advice. I am getting married at the end of this month and have been finalising the little details, such as accessories and flowers. The dress I have (here), it is described as a ‘natural’ colour but really it looks white. I hadn’t wanted to wear white (I was looking for a burgundy colour dress but didn’t find anything I liked) but this dress looks just lovely on. I am having a simple bouquet of calla lilies, no veil etc. It is a very small (35-40 people), simple lunch-time ceremony & reception.

I had bought a little vintage silver & crystal comb to go in my hair (I’m wearing it in a loose knot) but have been told (by someone I trust) that the colour does not suit my hair or colouring. Knowing me, they suggested gold or even red. So, I have been looking for something in a warmer colour when I found this.

I love it. Absolutely love it. But I am not sure it will work with what else I am wearing. But the colour and style are more ‘me’. Is there any way that I could make this work? I assume it would look too odd if it was the only red thing I wear, so do I need earrings with red in them, or perhaps red berries in my bouquet? Argh, I am clueless at this type of thing.

If it helps, I have brown hair and brown eyes, pale colouring but tending to yellow/olive rather than pink undertones. I wear gold jewellery.

I think it would be fine if this was the only red accessory you wore - and for the record I think it's stunning!

What co our shoes are you wearing? Depending on the shoes, maybe you could buy red shoe brooches to go on them. If they are open toed, maybe you could paint your nails red.

If you can find earrings (or a bracelet?) that match the hair pin you love, run with them.

If the dress and flowers are white/ish, and the pin is big enough, you may be able to have the pin as a 'statement' on it's own.

The dress seems simple enough to work with a lot of things. Put it all on and see how it feels wink.gif

Congratulations and best of luck!!

I would keep it as the only red accessory, personally- and the dress and comb are fabulous. Perhaps a similar colour ribbon around your bouquet would tie in nicely, but I definitely wouldn't do red earrings/necklace. Red shoes might be amazing though original.gif

Thank you everyone, you've given me comfort that it may just work. Though if I can find fabulous red shoes, I'd be very tempted!

I'm not a bad mum, I'm a good mum with low expectations
I actually think a bracelet that has a few beads of this colour would look fab.

I had pale purple shoes that matched the purple ribbon lacing on the back of my dress and it tied them together really well.

If you want to go with the red how about these studs?

If you had red flowers I would say wear the comb but as it is a lillie I would be more inclinded to wear something like these earings.

If you want to splash out on shoes perhaps a pair of Christian Louboutin's, with the flash of red on the soles? You can pick them up on ebay, neiman marcus or net-a-port online or DJ's in person.

I just bought the most fabulous fire engine red patent peep toe slingback shoes (platform) from FSW.

They were only $30 and look absolutely hot!

I wore them the other night to a party and nearly every woman in the place asked me where they were from thinking they were hundreds of $. I teamed them with bright red toe nails!

They would be perfect for that dress and hair pin.

I'd say keep it as the only red thing - or maybe test how do you look in red lipstick? Test out the outfit, but I think the white outfit/shoes/flowers with that flash of red in your hair would look fantastic - love that dress!
