Mum of 5
Dad at Home - it didn't work for me. I bled constantly for the whole time I had it in (about 9 months) and it was heavy bleeding. Needless to say our sex life suffered so I guess the contraception worked in that sense!

I would never have it again, I was miserable the whole time i had it in.

But I know at least 3 people that it has worked brilliantly! I was just one of the unlucky ones.

DH will go and get the snip after this baby is here - he is more than happy to get it done once I am ready!

my sister had one put in and found it uncomfortable and painful. She wished she didn't have to drive home afterwards as she felt so unwell. Based on her experience I'd probably look harder for a baby sitter.

Wow White-Lily, I never even thought to attribute my monthly three day headaches to the Mirena. Makes sense though. Also no libido sad.gif

I had a pap smear done at the same time and that was more uncomfortable than getting the Mirena inserted. Going home only felt like I had a mild period and it was easy to handle all the mothering responsibilities. It's been a non-event and I bled briefly a week later and nothing since; it's been almost five months.

ETA: I'm taking motilium and have a mirena so my libido is lower than non-existent. I thought it just might have been motilium... oh my poor hubby!

Dadathome - I love the mirena. I don't get the mood swings that I used to get on the pill. Well...I still do get the moods, but not the extremes that the pill gave me.

Pretty much since its been in, AF has been very very light, and only every 3-4 months, so awesome for both me and DH on that count.

A lot of DH's mates have had the snip. It is something we have discussed many times, and he seems willing, but not enough to actively pursue information about it, and as it is his body, it's not something I am going to push. We have 3 kids, and I will get another mirena put back in, in a few months time. We will go back to the pill (and prob condoms as well) as I really don't want to get pg again.

i thinnk with every hormone type contraception, it affects each individual differently, so what works for one may be horrible for the next person. Make sure if you both choose the mirena though, you get it checked at the 6 week mark to make sure it is in properly.
