Hi

My little boy has just been told he has a tight foreskin, which means only a little hole for the pee to escape from and this can cause problems in future.

He has been prescribed elocon cream to help the foreskin retract a little.

Has anyone else's little boy been diagnosed with this? Circumcision is an option apparently.

Please help, worried about the outcome.

TIA

xx

Yes my Ds had a tight foreskin. We tried the cream. In the end after constant infections we were referred to a urologist and he needed to be circumcised. He had built up a lot of scar tissue and the hole had nearly closed up. Give the cream a go I have heard it work for some but if it doesn't ask the doctor for a referral to a urologist so they can have a look. I should not have waited for so long but the dr kept prescribing antibiotics and the cream saying he'll grow out of it. In hindsight he was just fobbing us off and he really didn't have a clue and needed to be seen by a specialist.

If you are in Sydney and want a name of an excellent urologist let me know. Don't panic I know I was but in the end if you have to go down the circumcision route it is not that bad my son was fine after and best of all my son has never been on antibiotics since or needed to go to the drs in the past 3 years.

Edited to add my son was 4 when eventually got circumcised. I think you have time for it to stretch if your Ds is still a baby just keep any I on it for infection.

Is your baby under 1 years? Has he had UTI's or other infections? Can I ask if this is a paed who has commenced treatment and mentioned circumcision?
It really seems a little early to be concerned about his foreskin, babies this age will often have a little ballooning of the foreskin when passing urine because the foreskin is tight. It more often than not self corrects.
Good luck.

Hi

Yes, DS is only 6 mths old, and no infections as yet.

But the foreskin hole is really tiny. Is this a common thing in babies?

Thanks

Yes I was told DS1 had tight foreskin. I never done anything to it and he never got an infection. He is now 4 and I have noticed he has started pulling it back in the last week.

At that age, the foreskin is actually adhered to the glans. I would put the cream on the foreskin, but not in any way try to retract it. You can cause tearing doing that. Just keep an eye on it. More than likely it will be ok. You don't have to do anything special with a baby's penis. Just wash what you can see with a cloth, nothing more. Many times, damage is caused by parents trying to forcibly retract a foreskin at a young age. The first time it should be retracted is when the owner of the penis does it themselves.

A large proportion of circumcisions which have had to be performed at a later date are thought to be due to the fact that for some reason some parents feel the need to pull the foreskin back and tear the skin causing scarring which in fact produces a tight foreskin sad.gif We shouldn't touch it. Our little boys will do it well and truly themselves and will only pull it back when it is detached from the glans.

Hi

Thanks for the replies....

I am not trying to pull it back at all. His penis balloon's when he wee's as the hole is so small at the opening of the foreskin.

The foreskin hole is only the size of a big pin head..very tiny. Is that normal at 6 mths.

I don't want to circ, but if I do, I would rather do it at a young age rather than leave it until he is older.

Thanks

Yes, as STBG said earlier, ballooning is normal in little kids and as the linked article states, hormonal changes will alter the tissue. Put the cream on the foreskin to ease your mind, but otherwise leave it be. You only have to worry if he is getting repeated infections or pain.
