Hi all,

DH has been approached by his Company with the possibility of setting up an office in Coffs Harbour. We have always liked the idea of relocating to a place like Coffs, so I am actually quite excited about the opportunity.

I am look for some advice from any members who live there as to what the area is like in terms of schooling, good places to live, sporting opportunities for kids etc.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Currently I have a DS who is 4 & DD who is 18 months old. The talks with DH Company are in the initial stages, but we realise that we would have to make a decision by Sept/Oct this year as DS is due to start school next year.

Thanks in advance. Look forward to receiving replies which include the good, bad & the ugly lol..

Hi,

I currently don't live in Coffs, but had lived there all my life up till about 2 years ago. It is a nice place to live. Places to avoid living are the Park Beach area. There are quite a number of public schools and private schools. The private schools are not zoned to my knowledge.
I highly reccomend Possum's Den as a preschool from ages 3 - 6. They are amazing. There are quite a few different sporting activities ranging from Little Athletics, to footy, soccor, hockey, basketball etc.
It is a regional area, so there isn't the same access to things that you would find in a city etc. It can be quite clicky, but because there are a few 'sea changers', it's likely you will find people similar to yourself. There are a number of different playgroups around.

Good Luck in the decision making. Feel free to PM me if there's something you want to ask that I may be able to answer or send you in the right direction of.

If it was me I'd go slightly further north and move to Woolgoolga. It's very close to Coffs but so much more relaxed, family friendly and community orientated.

I wouldn't live in Coffs itself (but that is just me), but any of the little villages around it are nice, depending on whether you want to live on the beach or in the bush, it's the best of both worlds so to speak. Along the coast I would chose Emerald or even go as far north as Corindi/Red Rock ( I love Red Rock). Inland I would look at Coramba or Nana Glen. There are tons of primary schools to chose from.
