I am starting a new business and have hired a freelancer to create a logo for me. Job is done, Im very happy with the result but he sent me the logo with the following extensions: CMYK.CDR , CMYK.PDF and RGB.JPG. I am looking at creating my own website and have the logo on different items and stationery. What other extensions do I need? Can I ask for a web fileprepared in transparent background? What about .ai, .gif, .pct, .eps, .png? Which ones are more important?

You will be able to use the jpg file for your website and the PDF for your stationery. Not everyone can read cdr format so you should ask for eps or ai to make sure you have all usable formats.
Good luck with your new business!

+1 on the eps. You should get a vector file, but it is worth being specific and making sure you get a vector file. I've had people just create an EPS from a jpeg before...

24 hours is never enough.......
Also a hint, that you can take screenshots from a JPEG or PDF to use for a variety of purposes, but the resolution is sometimes not great.

What about the transparent background? Should I ask for this or can it be done later? Thank you for your replies.

I also have a PSD file from my designer but not sure if that is standard? It allows me to place it on top of things as the background is transparent and I can also use different elements of the logo by itself ie. just the butterfly or just the business name.

an ESP file will allow you to create anything in the future, including transparent backgrounds.

If you want a file off your designer that is transparent, ask for a PNG file with a transparent background.
