OK so I am selling a heap of stuff on Gumtree, someone wants to come and look at one of my items but can't come until Sunday.

I've since had somebody else interested in the same item, who wants to come today...What do you do in this situation?

Do you hold off until Sunday for the original person (who may do a no show - he doesn't have my address yet) or do you give preference to the person who can come today?

First in, best dressed IMO. As you have said, the guy on sunday may be a no show, and you being too polite may end with you not selling anything!

First in best dressed. So many people don't front as they can't be bothered if its in a few days. They change their mind.

Sell it while you can....go for it.

I would let the sunday guy know that you have others coming prior to him. It is up to him to follow up closer to sunday to see if you still have it.

To give the other side of the argument, I've had things with Gumtree where I could have gone during the week but it would be inconvenient, and suggest the weekend instead. If I knew it meant missing out on the item I'd arrange to see it during the week.
I'd say ettiquette dictates that the first in best dressed applies to the first person to tell you they want it, and you should at least let them know you've had another offer and see if they can come earlier.

Yep.. first in best dressed.

That is the nature of the beast - and unfortunately why second hand dealers bash on your door at 5am when you are having a garage sale!
