I had a somewhat complicated twin pregnancy managed beautifully at RHW. Went full term and was home in good time. I work in public health and believe the system to be better than private particularly if there are any complications.

Hi, this is my first post on EB after a long time reading.... however had to reply to this.. I had my second daughter in Nov 2011 at POWP and spent 3 nights at Crowne Plaza Coogee - absolutely wonderful! Ocean View room, room service, midwives great and on same floor if you need.
Just check that your Private Health Insurer participates in the program... |

Thank you all for your responses and PMs. Great to hear the direct experiences. Very much appreciated. (Not sure why some of you can't read my PMs back - I'll try and fix that. I was saying thanks).

Still Hopeful,
The link below is to a thread in the Announcements forum which gives instructions on how to fix the PM problem, if it doesn't work then you can post in that thread. You probably can receive a pm but when you send one it doesn't contain any text, just the quoted post you are replying to. http://www.essentialbaby.com.au/forums/ind...howtopic=937095 I hope that works. QUOTE (bbunny @ 22/02/2012, 02:54 PM) 14334348[/url]'] For those trying tos end PMs, read the admin page about adjusting your settings so you can send a PM OP - Sent you a PM on my OB I'm using POWP. Never bothered to do any hospital tours as I wanted to go private as I have PHI and I wnat my own rroom. Very happy with them so far and POWP has the "little luxuries" program where you can stay at the Crowne plaza Coogee.... Apparently everyone raves about it and I'm hoping I would be able to use it. We attended some classes at the POWP and everyone was very nice. They also provide everything for baby, from clothes to nappies, you only need to bring a going home outfit for bub....not sure about the Royal. Hi bbunny, Can you also pm me about the ob please? Thanks a bunch. |

Hi All,
I am only about to start TTC but live in the local area to both POW and RHW and have seen many friends go through both hospitals having babies over the past few years. From what I've heard and witnessed through visiting both are EXCELLENT choices to have your baby in so I wouldn't be unhappy with either. But here is where I'm currently at with my thinking once we do have to make our own decision. We could afford to have a baby at POW if we wanted to, but even with private health insurance we would be out of pocket $4,000-$6,000 and to me that is a lot of money to be paying when you are going down to one income and that amount could go far at establishing those first few months when one parent is at home with the new baby. The food at POW does not look great either, lets face it. Hospital food is hospital food and I'm pretty sure that would not be the reason I would base my medical care on. You can always have food brought in from elsewhere. Yes, if you decide to go private at RHW you may get your own room, BUT when my friend was there there were too many patients to allow this and there was just not nough room to accomodate. The midwives said it was extremely rare they were empty enough to allow private rooms. That said, at POW there were also shared rooms happening and there was no discount for this! Another friend who had here baby at POW last month was also enticed by the Crowne plaza little luxuries program but even though she had a trouble free, natural birth this didn't end up happening. (Complications at the hotel or something?) and personally I'd rather get home than move twice with a new baby and all that to get settled. Maybe wth a second baby the appeal of the hotel stay might be more? I have heard AMAZING things about the group midwife practice at RHW and I'd like to see an OB visiting your home after the birth to see how you're going as the midwives do! One last thing, if there are any complications for you or your baby you will be moved to RHW no matter what as the have better equipment. It's a no brainer for me! |

Hi all,
Could you please pm me details and suggestions of OBs to choose. I am leaning towards RHW but unable to decide to go Private or Public. If my baby is premature, my PHI will not cover me. If I needed to refer to a hematologist and an endocrinologist during pregnancy, wuld it make a difference whether I chose either hospitals, and whether to go private or public? i feel so confused. |
