There was a recent thread about a couple wanting an egg donor and it has been playing on my mind. Would you consider donating your eggs? Would you donate knowing that you hadn't finished your family? (I understand some clinics allow this and others don't).

Would you want ongoing contact with the family and child? Would you be upset if there was a miscarriage or if the couple decided to terminate due to an unforseen problem? Would you feel sad that you couldn't see the child grow up or happy that somewhere out there, they have a wonderful life with another family?

Has anyone gone through egg donation who can give me some stories about what it was like?

No that is something I could never do, though I would consider surrogacy for a family member.

Maybe.

I would like to be able to say yes but I don't see it as a black and white subject.

I would do it in a heartbeat. But alas, I'm too old now and no one wants my old eggs sad.gif

I would want to have some sort of a relationship with any child born using my eggs though. I would always be happy to be contacted and for the child to know the correct story of their conception.

I wouldn't donate unless they agreed to keep in contact with me.

I have considered it, and that same post prompted me to discuss it with DH. He's reluctant for various reasons, and so I probably wouldn't in order to avoid hurting him. Besides, on a physical basis my genetics may not be that crash hot (3 genetic / genetic pre-disposition illnesses by age 30).

to be honest.

I would consider donating my eggs if there was a guarentee that I could remain anonymous. As I would not see myself at all as being the mother of the resulting child. The person who raises the child would be the mother of the child.

But since that is not guarenteed and at some point there might be a child looking for me as their 'mother' then I would say no. I cant donate my eggs because I would never want that to happen.

Yes would/have considered and hope to in the future. No would not want contact but of course would like to know if it results in successful pregnancy. Yes would be upset with miscarriage and would not be happy with termination for any as it is against my personal beliefs so honestly would rather not be told.

Sudo make me a sandwich.
In theory, yes. I don't feel any bond with my eggs and I wouldn't have an interest in any pregnancy or resulting child coming from my donation. I would take the lead of the parents, though, to help with contact, history etc if that is what they wanted.

In reality, I'm just not selfless enough to do so for someone not dear to me with a high risk of stroke against me and at the upper age limit.

I don't think I could ever do it. To me it is like giving your children away, even though they may be going to a wonderful home.
