We took delivery of our "new" (2 yrs old) camper trailer two weeks ago. We added our stuff and went camping last weekend. It was great and we had a ball (it even stayed dry during really nasty weather) however the mattress is worn out. (It was an ex rental so it's had a busy 2 years).

We are trying to decide between innerspring and foam. We thought it would be easy but so far we've only found a company in Brisbane and one in Melbourne that does innerspring mattresses for trailers and a few foam places - but the mattresses are really expensive!!!

Anyone know of a place in Sydney that we could check out? DH has arthritis in his back and I get a bit of back pain. It's taken over a week until I can get up in the morning not too sore and that's being back in our good bed for a week. We only slept 3 nights in the trailer.

Mattresses from other places tend to be way too high. The foam mattress in the trailer at the moment is about 4 inches high. We think we could have 5 or 6 inches but probably would lose too much room in the cover if we went to 8 or 10 inches.

Foam mattresses, I would check out Clark Rubber. They are still pretty expensive, but I believe they can cut them to size??

Ours has a foam mattress and he has his heart set on a innerspring for an extra 150-200 but im trying to talk him into just using our really comfOrtable mattress protector. We paid $100 for in target. Maybe just get a good mattress topper

After years of camping, camper trailers, and now caravans, my advice is to buy the best quality mattress you can afford (just as you would for at home). You need a good night sleep after a day on the road or out and about.

We replaced the horrible foam mattress in our camper trailer with a self inflating 4WD and camping mattress. I think OzTrail is the brand.

When it is time to pack up, we open the bung and it gets compressed as all the stuff is stored on top (we put all of the pillows and sleeping bags and 2x bunk beds on there as these are then stored in the tent bag, not in the trailer).

After setting up, the mattress just reinflates itself and we do the bung up (if we remember!)

It is quite a firm mattress (it does have a foam core) but I have spent over a week sleeping on it and have still been very comfy

ETA I think it cost us around the $150 mark

Many of the camper trailer making companies will add an inner spring mattress at extra cost. Perhaps contact one of them about buying one directly.

Also, to hijack your thread - we are in the market for a camper trailer. We are looking at Complete Campsite or Kimberley - which one do you have?

You need to also consider weight when adding anything to your camper.
We purchased a foam mattress for this reason, (and until recently I had a better nights sleep in the camper then at homw ) I am investing in a mattress protector or something of the sort as the last time we were away every morning I woke up feeling damp, I think the combination of the foam/body heat/canvas wasw not letting things air out. Not sure if a mattress topper will solve this or not
