So I was watching a repeat of Spicks'n'Specks last night and there was a singer on there, name 'Loene Carmen' (I'm not really knowledgeable of Aussie music so I'd never heard of her). Anyway, so I looked her up coz I thought her name was rather nice and then I saw that she has a daughter (also a prominent singer on the Aussie scene apparently) named 'Holiday' and I thought, 'hmm, Holiday? It's really quite a lovely name'.

Another everyday word that I heard as a name that I fell hopelessly in love with that my husband wouldn't agree on, was 'Story'...... I so desperately wanted to call a girl 'Story' but it's not meant to be.

My old hairdresser has a daughter called 'Poet', again, never would have thought of it, but again quite pretty.

So basically, what I'm saying is that there are so many beautiful words in the English language that we just don't think to use as names....

That's all. Ponderism over. original.gif

Funny that you should mention her because the first time I knew about her was in The Year my Voice Broke and her character was called Freya. That's where I first heard that name and I used it for my daughter many years later.

My cousin has a daughter named Holiday Rose. His son is Nureyev (after the dancer not the racehorse).

I can't help but think that kids in the playground would be awfully cruel with a name like Holiday

Brings a whole new and unpleasant image to the otherwise enjoyable thought of "going on holiday..."

I loved Loene Carmen in The Year My Voice Broke! Both she and her daughter, Holiday, have been on Rockwiz, I think. Holiday reminds me of names like Halcyon or Sunday or Tuesday or Summer. Quite cool for the right person.

I love the name Story, it's on my fantasy list wink.gif Never would use it though, I love to admire it from afar.

I'm in love with, and absolutely adore the name Poet wub.gif I have it at the top of my list for this baby, if she/he is a girl. Just need to work on the hubby a bit more (he is starting to come around).
Should I be lucky enough, she will hopefully be Poet Winter wub.gif

You're right though, so many beautiful words that could be used as names original.gif

Holiday cigarettes - bleurgh! Although there is an Australian singer called Holiday Sidewinder who is pretty cool.
Love love love Story (I'm a writer). I'm hoping if this one is a girl DH will let me use it as a MN. I know he'd never let it past as a first name.
