I'm looking at purchasing an Ergo, either Performance or Sport for DD2 due in the coming weeks and am seeking feedback on either.

I will be using it in Europe this year during summer and wanted to know which one is cooler to use. Has anyone used one or both in warm weather and can give some feedback? I've read the description on the Ergo website and they both seem similar to me.

I use the sport, which is nice light fabric and good padding. The difference far as I could tell was more in the sizing, the sport suits a taller, longer framed person.

I'm not familiar with European summers, but have used mine on regular summer days here. I won't do the stupidly hot 40+ days with it unless I'm in a well airconditioned place like a shopping centre though.

Depending on how old your baby will be, you may also need to take the newborn insert into account, though if they have decent head control you can get by without the full insert and just use the cushion instead.

How old will your baby be when you go on holiday?

The thing with Ergos for newborns is that you usually have to use the infant insert which gets terribly hot and sweaty.

Have you had a look at solarveil/mesh carriers?

I have one made by Bamberoo - pictures can be seen here of various SV carriers that she has made. It cost me $150 posted secondhand. Money so well spent. It has been fab so far this summer in Perth. But they are better for bigger babies (around 6 months+)

Will you be going swimming at all? You could get a mesh ringsling from Nursing Angel here and at the moment they are only $50. It would be good for warm/hot weather too.

If you are still after an easy buckle carrier, I really recommend a Chunei. Here is a mesh one so super light and breezy, perfect for hot climates. They can be used from birth as there is a hidden seat that you place the baby in, no need for a bulky stuffy insert It is from the US but I calculated that all up including tracking post it would be around the $100 aussie dollar mark.

Thanks for your replies. DD2 will be about 4 months when the weather will be warmer and in we will be in Europe, so most likely I will need the infant insert with the Ergo so thanks for bringing the hot factor of the insert to my mind! Bernard, thanks for the info about the other carriers, I will check out the links for them also.

By 4 months you should be fine to skip the insert - a rolled up towel in the bottom can be used instead to boost them up a little, or if you've already got the insert, the cushioned seat part actually comes out of the cocoon and can be used separately, or if she's a big bub she could possibly go in without.

My DS is 3 months and we've started using the ergo-sport without the full insert, just using the cushion as his head control is very good and he's fine with it. Just lays his head on my boobs when he wants to go to sleep

The other option is a manduca, which has the infant insert built in so is a bit cooler.

Just bumping this as I had the same question. Anyone else have an opinion on the difference between the Sport and the Performance Ergos?

I believe the performance has lighter, cooler fabric and more suited to hotter climates. Thats why we ended up getting it anyway, as we live in WA, and thus have long hot summers.
