Most people I know seem to have theirs at 38 weeks... My doctor does them no earlier then 39 weeks because of baby's lungs ect.

This is fine, I have no problem with waiting. But would they let me go closer to 40 weeks? The reason being that at 39 weeks I would be in hospital on my sons 1st birthday... And I can't stand the thought of being in there on the same day everything went down last year... Plus I want to make a special cake and acknowledge his birthday like all parents do. So if I waited till after then, I would be 39+4 when I have my c-section. Has anyone had theirs that late?

I've asked my doctor a couple of times if he will let me go that far, but he keeps brushing me off so I'm guessing the answer is no and he will break it to me later on. He has promised he wont do it on 27 July so i might just have to be happy with that. Given that he died during labour with no clear reason they want to avoid me going into labour at all costs. If that does happen, I will have an emergency c-section.

I know it seems trivial but the date is stressing me out. I'd loved hear others stories about their planned section date.

Thanks sim. Were they early for medical reasons or is that just when your doctor chose to do them?

My first one was due to high blood pressure and baby not dropping.

Second bubs was becoming a little too big, I was going to have a c-section anyway due to the first c-section.

I had mine at 38+5. My OB would have preferred 39 but due to his operating days was happy with only the 2 day difference. He is the same as your OB which prefers to do it no earlier than 39 due to the potential lung issues unless there is a need.

I would insist that your OB talk about it with you, especially if it is stressing you out. I had a massive meltdown at 35 weeks and insisted my OB take my DS out then and there and that I could not cope any longer. I love my OB as he did not dismiss me but talked about what was wrong and gave me his time to make sure that I was OK.

Mine was done at 39w1d. So yes, they can go beyond 39w.

I had post of the day once, until GQ took it away
I'd ask for it earlier, rather than later. 38+4 would be a perfectly respectable request given everything else, and your OB would probably prefer that than risking you going into labour

Mine is booked for 39+3. I had to neg on that time as I'm waiting on my mum to get here from the states.Forgot to add that my due date from ultrasound and pos opk are out by 6 days. The date by ultrasound is 6 days later. So if you go by my pos opk and period I will be 40+2.
My other two were at 38 and at 38+5.My first was a failed induction at 36 weeks due to pe.

The closer you go to your due date...the more likely it is that you will go into spontaneous labour so the later you leave it the more likely it is you'll go into labour naturally anyway.

I had complications with DS2 with the c/s being booked too early at 37 weeks with dates wrong so he was more like 36 and had breathing problems....to avoid that happening again my next one was booked on the dot of 39 weeks and my water broke the morning before. Going into labour naturally was something DH and I had not even considered so when it happened I freaked out as I'd planned that day to be my cleaning day, setting up spare bedroom for my mum, and packing my bag. We had no one to look after my other 2 boys...it felt rushed and disorganised...until we actually arrived at hospital and then we started getting excited. In the end, I was glad he chose to come then as at least I knew he was ready unlike my previous experience where poor DS2 was very undercooked. sad.gif

I'd rather have a natural delivery anyday BUT the pro of a c/s is that you have some element of control over when bubs comes so if it's really stressing you out - couldn't you request to have it before you son's birthday? Just a thought! original.gif
