Hi,
My little boy's 1st birthday is coming up in 2 months time, and I thought I would do a cake smash session and use some of the pics for his invite.
I have never done one before, so was looking for any advice people can give me to get the best results.

Including, what cake smashes for best results??

Also, would love to see some pics if anyone is interested in sharing links to their images.

Thanks,
Lisa.

Hmm no real advice except be ready to clean up afterwards - plenty of wipes and towels or a bath LOL

I buy un-iced sponge cakes from woolies and ice them myself - the sponge breaks up easily. Buttercream type icing is better than fondant.

I don't have all my pics on flickr, but there is one pic here:

And one just next to it.

Good luck!

Have an extra person to help you! lol if you have a baby that's on the move it's very hard to keep them in one spot and keep the mess manageable.

Use a cake with soft icing, I have someone making cakes for my DD's one in April but recommended not putting the cakes in the fridge otherwise it can harden them up.

Not sure I can share them here but if you PM me I can send you the link to some that I've done original.gif

Thanks for the advice girls.

PippityPip, they look great!
The way you have displayed them is exactly how I want to do it and turn it into an invitation. Did you make the template yourself? If so, any tips for me? How do you make the edges of the photos rounded?

I was giong to cheat and buy the ready made buttercream icing and colour it, and just use a packet vanilla or buttercake, so hopefully that should work well.

Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks original.gif

It's a photoshop action/template. Can't remember where I got it from, and cant seem to find it on google sad.gif You can try on here though - http://www.thecoffeeshopblog.com/p/coffees...plates-and.html

You can get a trial version of photoshop off the Adobe website if you don;t have photoshop already original.gif

Yeah that should work fine. The cake mix I used was just the white wings angelic vanilla cake. I intended on just getting the homebrand cake mix, but they had none.

I find this a ridiculous thing altogether, I've only ever heard of it once and that was a family of total bogans who did it with all 6 of their kids - I just thought it was some bizarre thing they invented themselves.

I abhor the wasting of food, there are starving people in the world!

Oh, and P.S... The cake wasn't totally wasted. My older 2 ate some, then fed some to the birds. So there, take that party pooper.

P.P.S... I forgot to add in a "whatevs" rolleyes.gif
