We bought DS 1 a bike from Target for Xmas 2010. Easy parent handle to steer with and pedals well positioned for a small child.
Don't know if they still have similar ones but might be worth a try. |

Consider a Kettler trike:
http://www.littlebruiser.com.au/manufactur...anufacturerid=3 We would have bought one if we didn't end up buying a Berchet, which no longer seem to be made. Whatever you decide, make sure it has soft rubber tyres and not hard plastic ones. |

I do not recommend Radio Flyer, I found the pedals REALLY hard for DS to push, they are quite stiff. Other cheaper brands were much much easier.

babycat - what brand is the trike from target?
mum_mum - the kettler trikes look great because you can adjust where how close the seat is to the pedals. But they are so expensive!! And they seem to be sold out everywhere. woofer - thanks. I think I'm going to have to get DD onto one to see. Were you talking about the same style of radio flyer that the others have mentioned? I see there is a classic version too... |

We've had a kettler for nine years and my 11 year old still rides it round the back yard - looks like a monkey. They're about the only trike in Aust that lasts and you can hand on. Just ask a German friend, I bet they grew up with a Kettcar.
The most important thing for your kids first trike is how it pedals. All Kettler trikes auto free wheel, just like a real bike. So you can pedal / push / coast and the pedals only go around when you kid pedals. This is important to get them ready for their first bike. Second is the type of wheels. Definitely go for rubber or pneumatic (pump up) No hard plastic. I know Kettler can be hard to find but they're worth the extra effort. |
