Well I can't say for sure they aren't leg cramps, but they do feel differently to previous cramps I've had. The last lot of cramps 3 years ago, where so cramped that I couldn't move my foot until it ceased, and they lasted for up to 30 seconds. After a couple of months of them they ceased (after I stopped Yasmin pill) but I was left with it being very painful to walk.

I have just been on a holiday interstate, and on the way home on the plane I thought I started to get leg cramps - so got up and walked around etc as flying recommends if you get such pain. Except now I don't think that's what they are, as it is only affecting the calf of my muscle and lasts only a few painful seconds at a time. They have continued now since Saturday on the plane, so 4 days - and very painful for that time and make me shout out in pain. But they are kind of almost a shooting pain through my calf musle and then gone again. They aren't affecting my walking. So now I don't know that they are leg cramps, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong with my leg! I get it at all sorts of time - in the car driving, sitting down (like now continually 'cramping' or pains but not as severe), standing up doing something, bending over, lying down. You name it!

The only thing that has worried me is that I am Factor V Leiden positive, but I've never suffered a symptom and don't know what to look out for.

Any ideas on what could be like a cramp, but isn't a cramp??

It sounds like it could be DVT (deep vein thrombosis). I would get it checked out by your GP as soon as possible.

You might want to get checked for a blood clot. They can cause intense pain. Also, you say that the pain came on when you were flying: that is a risk factor for blood clots (or Deep Vein Thrombosis).

Please go to a doctor or hospital as soon as possible.

Yes I changed my name again!
get it checked could def be a DVT

ETA ESP IF YOU ARE FACTOR V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have antiphospholipid syndrome and have had PEs (clots on the lungs) and if I got a leg pain like that after travelling I would be at the hospital ASAP. I am on warfarin though so chances of it happening are low but I still wera TEDS stockings on long trips and flights

Even if there seems to be no redness or swelling? I know at least to look out for that, but it is just pain nothing else? I feel like an idiot going to check pains in my legs out if it is just pains in my leg! The flight was also just under 2 hours. Unfortunately I don't know alot about FVL... only that I am more likely to get blood clots. But I thought there would be swelling?

If I went I'd go tonight, only because hubby works tomorrow and would find it awfully hard to get off work. But I feel silly going to ER for leg cramps!

hope you went!
You know those people who drop dead after a flight to london? They often have factor V leiden. You are at increased risk of venous thrombosis.

Here is more info.

Slap me over the wrist I didn't go - but I have an appointment with my GP at 2.15 as I had pains every 30 seconds the entire night and could barely sleep and they continue today. So definitely going in today no questions... had a few days of relief but I did Derby last Wed and it left me almost unable to walk with what I suspect were tears in my thigh muscles, but now I can walk properly again the pains are back and worse...
