Just looking for some positivity, experience, advise...

My history is
DS1 - 18
1 early mc
New partner
TTC for over 4 year
1 blighted ovum
Twin pregnancy - DS2 & 3
Now pregnant again...

I went for an early scan at 6w1d as I've been that early before with other pregnancies and have had some cramping and I've been extremely worried (as with my blighted ovum I cramped and had no blood, with my twin pregnancy I bled).

The sonographer was nice and all however I thought maybe she'd do an internal but she didn't. Because I'm larger sized normally you wouldn't see anything unless by internal US.

Anyway I went to the Dr that I was seeing today and this is the report they gave...

Findings: a single intrauterine gestational sac demonstrated without visible embryo, yolk sac or amnion. Small perigestational haemorrhage. Right ovary measured 9.0ml and left ovary was not identified. Measurements: MSD 11.6mm. This corresponds to an estimated gestational age of 5 weeks 2 days by ultrasound with an estimated date of delivery by ultrasound of 04/09/12.

Impression: Single intrauterine gestational sac without visible embryo. Rescan recommended in 4 weeks time to confirm ongoing pregnancy.

I know it was really early so maybe I'm just getting carried away however what I'm really angry about is the way the dr treated me.

He argued with me to wait another 4 weeks! We'll I've been here before and I'm not waiting until 13 weeks for a D&C if it's another blighted ovum!!!

Some dr's are so caring and others are just plain nasty. He eventually gave me another referral but asked me to wait the 4 weeks. However I'm going back on Monday as I should be 7 weeks + 5 and I told him to send me to the other xray service who charge as the one I went to was the one who I found very unprofessional last time...The dr went on about how this isn't magic and you just have to be patient etc etc etc

Anyone else have any of these experiences or a crappy Dr? I've booked into see a new one next week.

I have had some bad experiences with an ultrasound place. Similar to your experience. I had gone for my first scan where they did an internal and said your only just 5ish weeks (i would have been more like 7 weeks)
I then went for a second scan same place and they tried 3 machines external scans they then asked if I was happy with an internal which i declined as there were no females available (previous sexual assualt history here) he then said he could not tell if there was a heartbeat or not. I then went back for a 3rd scan at what would have been 10 weeks to discover a blighted ovum.
Sack right gestation with less than a grain of rice emby.

I now refuse to go anywhere but a womens imaging place. The one behind King Eddy has an ob who sits in on the scan.
After my issues I find this extremly reassuring. As you said if the pregnancy is not "viable" i don't want to be waiting weeks.
All the best and go with your intuition. Where are you based maybe you could find an ultrasound place specific for pregnant women.

I went for an ultrasound yesterday at 8weeks and results showed another blighted ovum. I had the same results 2years ago, so knew what it was as soon as I saw the empty sac on the big screen.

The woman doing the scan was professionally sympathetic and said she was going to get a Dr to come and have a chat with me. I got dressed and waited, and soon a man walked in with this big frown on his face, his bottom lip pouted and his head tilted and in a soft voice said he was sorry about my results. It was such an over sympathetic unprofessional response that I was a little shocked, as it was followed by his normal face and normal voice telling me to follow him to a room to have chat - all smiles this time.

The man (he only gave his first name, and no prefix, so I'm not sure if he was a DR or a Nurse) took me to a counselling room (I have experienced this 2 years ago) and started talking about booking me for a D&C. I informed him that after my previous blighted ovum I used the conservative method of miscarriage and would be wanting to do that again this time. He was so adamant that I have the D&C to the point of being pushy, talking about infections and complications and other scare tactics that were not correct. As I had been in this situation 2 years ago I am well equipped with statistical information and real facts that deal with conservative miscarriage vs D&C and I was appalled that he would not even listen to my preference, so I just let him talk his scripted dialogue til he was done.

I am sharing this story as it's important for women to be informed from many sources when it comes to the end of a pregnancy. I am strong in my convictions, so this man did not intimidate or sway me, but I did think that his approach was of concern for a woman less informed about options and who would very rightly be scared and upset in that moment. This might sound sexist, but with my first experience of conservative miscarriage I was counselled by a woman, who was understanding and supportive of my decision. Please gather all the information you can, including experiences from other women before making any decisions that place your body in the care of someone else and make the choice that is right for you.
