DS is ten weeks and since about 2 weeks old he seems to hate tummy time. His neck muscles are quite strong, and he can lift his head and hold it up, but he cries and screams almost the whole time. I get upset hearing him and end up stopping it, whereas DH will persevere. Should I just harden up and ignore the crying?

My daughter hated it. I read somewhere that Native American babies were often strapped to their mother's backs for long periods of time and they ended up walking LOL It gave me permission to not worry about tummy time so much. So, I gave up on it. My daughter never crawled but chose to bum shuffle and is now walking perfectly fine at 6.5 years of age

I didn't let my baby out of my arms for the first six months. We never did tummy time. He is now a 20 month old who never stops! I think tummy time is a conspiracy to make parents feel guilty about another thing that we should be doing!!

Hold bub up on your chest counts as tummy time. Whenever they have to use their neck muscles. Don't make it a chore. Just put her in different positions, she'll be fine

My LO used to love it but when he hit about 12 weeks old suddenly hated it..no idea why. He will only be on his tummy for a minute before starting to cry now. He's 17 weeks now and I just have him in the jolly jumper and on tummy time is when I'm half lying down with him against me so he pushes up off me if that makes sense!

He hated it so I didn't do it.
I think its BS and a lot of mums get anxious about continuing even if their baby hates it. |

QUOTE Hold bub up on your chest counts as tummy time. Whenever they have to use their neck muscles. This. DS used to cry his heart out every time he was put on his tummy (usually followed by a spew). I just used to put him on my chest and this helped and he didnt get upset. He was sitting up at about 6.5 mths, crawling at 10 mths and walking at 11 mths - so dont think the lack of tummy time did him any harm! Please see below for what Im talking about. During tummy time (getting agitated): ![]() Would always end up like this: ![]() |

Id try laying on my back on the couch or bed and putting bub tummy down on your chest so they can see your face.
