I'm looking at getting a heart rate monitor and will probably be a polar FT7 but would love to hear from EB members if you've got a different recommendation.

I've got a Polar FT7 and love it. I don't feel like I've had a workout if I'm not wearing it but it is more suited for the gym/machine workout and if I was using a HRM for outside training on my own etc I would have looked at a garmin for the GPS function.
Personally I am happy with it, easy to use and great for keeping you motivated but I got it because I thought I needed the function to be able to look back on my last 100 workouts but I could have gotten away with the FT4 (which stores the last 10 workouts) as I really don't use it like I thought I would. It's great at my gym as all the equipment is compatiable with Polar so I can see my heartrate at all times. |

I love my polar - it really motivates me to keep going just a few more minutes to reach x amount if calories burned. Fabulous device! But yes, if I had ,y time over I'd probably get a garmin too for the GPS functions. |

I've just upgraded from a polar to a garmin. Thought that the polar was great, but the Garmin is even better. I was using an app on my phone for tracking my walks, and then the polar for HR. Now I can just use the one item.
The garmin is a little more expensive than what my polar was, but well worth it in the long run. One other advantage of my garmin is that I recharge it via the computer, I don't have to send it back to polar to get batteries changed. You can get a good base model for around $250. There is one coming out in Jan which will be around $130US. |

I hate my polar FT7,it fequently gives me dodgy readings, telling me my heart rate is either 0 or 220, Ive sent it back to the repairers for Polar and they say it is functioning normally! It hates any slight movement and certainly can't cope with me doing burpees or anything else similar. I wouldn't buy a Polar again, their customer service has been appalling.

I have a Polar FT4 and it does the job. Very easy to use and works well. Got it brand new for around $99 on Ebay
