My DD, aged 3 had grommets put in both ears back in August this year.
Just been to our GP, and she has an infection in her right ear, and the grommet has dislodged from the ear drum, sitting sideways in front of it..
I've been lucky enough to get in to see our ENT surgeon tomorrow.. but in the meantime am wondering if anyone else's children have had grommets, and them come out so quickly (after only 4-5 months?) Did they have to be put in again? Did the ear infections continue?

TIA =)

DS (nearly 5) had gromets inserted in March. We had a review with the ENT in October and they were both still firmly in place. However, we had an audiology review yesterday and the gromet in his left ear is now out nd the pressure/fluid have begun to form again resulting in hearing loss. We're now waiting to hear what the ENT wants to do bout it.

DS had his second lot of grommets put in May last year. One was out within 4 months and he has since had a perforated ear drum due to fluid build-up in that ear. Still waiting to get back in to the ENT to figure out what happens next. Did you end up getting more for your DD?

Hi Zeb, we have been back to the ENT twice since my first post, and all is looking great.
He was surprised how quickly it came out, but said it looked to have done its job. The left grommet is still firmly in place, so we go back in 6 months for another check up.

Thanks Mel*m. We managed to get a cancellation appointment last week (after another ear infection and near burst eardrum again) and we're back in for another set of grommets plus tonsilectomy in early May....I do wonder what they do when they decide they've run out of things to cut out, but maybe it will help....so hard to know.
