Hi, this is my third pregnancy but will be my second live bub. I've been a bit quiet in here cause I'm waiting for an amnio next week. But I feel good and am being positive.

I'm in Williamstown. Another great shop for large baby items is Baby Mode in Sunshine. They are great to match/beat prices elsewhere. I have a Strider 4 from there. It's great but very wide. I'm not sure how wide the new model is but if it's similar it's great for walking and fitting shopping etc in but is wide for shops and a PITA to take in the car. I have a small umbrella pram for the car. That said I'd love a Bugaboo so will work on DH. wink.gif

Oh and I'm having bub at the Women's. I had my other two there and love them. I'm also looking to go through the midwife program. They are so busy our first appointment isn't till about 20 weeks though.

Cheers
Sophie

hi,
I live around Doncaster and my DD is 18 months. Re Prams - we bought the Mountain buggy - best investment we have made. its a bit heavy - about 11 kgs so hard to take in and out of the car, but very easy to manouvre for walks / jogs/ treks etc.

Pumpkin Patch are doing a 50% off on babywear and shoes at the moment!

Hi ladies...

Just thought Id pop by today as work is beginning to slow down and its such a gorgeous day its hard to concentrate.

I am definately going through that 2nd trimester honeymoon phase as I really dont feel pregnant any more. I have a little bump but other than that Im back to my old self. Ill be 16 weeks on Monday so pretty much everyone I know and work with knows now.
Everyones reaction has been awesome and it makes the whole thing seem so real now.

J-Sax good to hear I have a EB Neighbour. Have you started looking at child care facilities in the area? We're on the Oakleigh side of Clayton so I think we'll be looking at Oakleigh or Bentleigh for child care. I would never think that Id need to look at this yet but Ive been told by several women to start early!

Well hope you're all doing great and will get to spend some time in the sun in the coming days. Bring on the weekend. I have a wedding on Saturday.... Hmmmm...what to wear?!
I always leave these things to the last minute. Im hoping I can speeze into a dress from the last wedding season.

Hi girls,
I'm not in Melbourne either, am a few hours away in VIC in the country original.gif but would love to keep up to date with any sales and bits going on in Melb - I did all my shopping there for our first bubs. We are due 30th June (with one baby this time!) We got most bits at Baby Bunting in Bentleigh, they have a fairly good range - especially prams and they gave us a discount as we were having twins. Baby gallery in oakleigh has all the basics too.

I have a few friends who are unhappy with their strider - both because of the width and also one friend has found the seat quite short for her bub and needs to upgrade again. I have a BJ city select which I love and it can take car capsules too - maxi cosi, peg perego and sns unity (but we didn't really have many options with prams as we were having twins) - it is good if you have 2 or are planning 2 close together. I have also heard very good things about the city mini. There are a few prams on the market now that will take capsules - mountain buggy, quinny, bugaboo are a few I know. I have heard mixed reviews about the donkey? People seem to love it or hate it!

We went private for the twins and the costs really add up! I am lucky though as I have heard that Ob's are pricier in the city. We were lucky to only pay $2000 for the pregnancy management fee whereas I know that some city doctors charge more like 4k or 5k. I think we will still go private this time around as i liked the continuity of care and having my ob present at the delivery, as well as the aftercare he provided. Plus I liked the private room original.gif

Hope everyone is well!

Hi ladies waves.gif
Well I am sure I'm going to be coming from left field here.
I am not a city girl... We are up on the Murray in the Mallee.
We just have a small farm and both myself and husband work in town.
So there isn't the choice of private ob for over 2.5 hours away.
Not that I'm going that option.
I am planning a home birth if everything goes well this time... Last pregnancy I had pre-eclampsia so it was a very medicalised pregnancy. I really feel positive about this pregnancy and don't think it will happen again.
I am seeing an independent midwife and its all covered by medicare so no costs at all for me tthumbs.gif.
So far not even had or paid for a doctors appointment as I just get my drs to sign my forms at work original.gif
As a midwife I will probably be doing a fair chunk of my own antenatal care.

I doubt I'll by another pram, I have a capsule that clicks in to a stroller from my last pregnancy and a phill and teds sports (which I HATE) but could tolerate if I have too... My DS will almost be 3 when #2 arrives so I doubt he'll go in a pram, I don't use on now he just walks beside me.

I assume I'll probably just put baby in a sling if I'm out and about in town, and most other places I'll go will just be friends houses so I wont need one.

DS is in a bed so no need for a second cot... My sister already has a boy and a girl so no real need to buy lots of clothes.

Really enjoying this pregnancy so far, not like last time where I had terrible morning sickness everyday until 30 weeks. I am starting to get a little bump too which is fun! I am just really tired, but that could have something to do with working shift work 4 days a week and looking after a 2 year old.

Talk soon biggrin.gif

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying their Christmas holidays:)

Its a great idea to start a mel/vic Surfiechick--might make it easy for a first timer like me in getting over all my confusion about prams/cots/car seats etc.. biggrin.gif

About me---I live in Hadfield, near glenroy and am due on the 14th June and am going to the same practice as Surfiechick at France perry House. Going private seemed like a good idea..but the expenses are just crazy..oh well!!

I have just started looking for prams and cots and am so confused!!!! ohmy.gif My friend who has a 3 mth old has a Combi pram which is only 5 kgs in weight..she raves about it being real easy to handle. With regards to cots..what do you think about buying a second hand one..my husbands colleague has offered us her old cot which is on pretty good condition.

also does anyone think its a good idea to invest in a baby capsule??? i have heard that it can be used only until a bay is 6mths old...if so wouldn' it be a waste of money??

Wish all of you a very Safe and Happy Christmas and New Year and hope to hear from all of you very soon:)original.gif

veggiepatchfamily - I am near the murray too and on a farm although not as far west as you! My ob and hospital are only about 80-90km away, so only about an hour!

deedee - If I were to but a used cot I would probably just buy a new mattress for it (which I think is the sids recommendation anyway - so that you know it hasn't been damp/mouldy/dirty etc)
re capsules - I found mine a lifesaver (but i had twins and used them with a travel system so it was so easy to transfer to stroller etc and for me to carry both). I was very unsure before I had the bubs but for me it ended up making life easier. I guess i depends on how much driving you do and whether you would be transferring baby in and out of car. They are very handy for short trips to shops or friends houses as you don't need to constantly get baby in and out of buckles. They do recommend not to leave babies in capsules for extended periods though as it is better for their hips for them to be lying flat.
There are places you can hire them though which makes it a bit cheaper - most of them are about $75-$100 for 6 months hire
