Just a Q for those of you who have used them. Do you have other children sleeping in nearby rooms and was the alarm loud enough to also wake them?

I've used the alarm on all 3 of my kids, and each time the alarm didn't wake anyone else (not even DH rolleyes.gif ) Only two people woke each time - me and the child using it. Good luck with it.

I'd love to try the alarm, but I have a question: how do you know when to stop using it?

I continued to use it until we had 14 dry nights in a row.

Lib, good luck! Your DD being so keen to try it is a great start original.gif

Zebette, so glad to hear it's worked so well for you, too original.gif

Sorry this is a bit late, hope you have had some improvement since your first night.

You are not necessarily doing anything wrong, if she is releasing a little pee it will trigger the alarm, otherwise is there any other kind of moisture that could trigger it..like sweat? Is she wiping properly on her last pee of the night so there is no extra moisture?

We did have wet beds for the first 2-3 nights but we have now had 21 consecutive nights of no alarm with dry nights every time.

Did you get the wireless? How have you got it inserted? We used pantyliners and just cut a slit into them and put the monitor in there so it wasn't able to move around if that helps?

We're very excited because our son has just come off the alarm! He made it to 21 days dry and then had a small accident - he jumped out of bed so fast the bell sounded like a little blip. He's also had a couple of near misses in the early morning - we only have one toilet so it can be a bit of a race early in the morning. Other than that he is now a dry boy - and very proud of it.

It was really worth going through a continence nurse. I felt educated and that I had an understanding of what was going on and going to happen. She was excellent with my son and he understood all the necessary information - in particular about drinking plenty of fluid in the day to increase his bladder's ability to hold urine. The other advantage was that we didn't need to purchase the equipment but hired it.

To answer some questions asked earlier in the thread:
- no one else in our house was woken by the bell except my son and myself. Unfortunately the timer on our oven has the exact same sound and I now hate the sound!
- to the poster who talked about getting their child up to go to the toilet for almost a year, one thing that was stressed to us was that we were never ever lift him or physically sit him up in bed. He had to do that himself. It was all a part of the training of the brain;
- if the bell didn't wake him up we were to "shake" him awake. We were very lucky in that I only had to do that the first time he wet the bed. He was so deeply asleep it took quite some time to wake him up!
- sometimes the alarm was set off by sweat - it was highly annoying. Interestingly, later on our son didn't wake up at those times.

One negative effect has been that if he goes to the toilet before midnight he has something similar to nigh terrors. He gets up and goes to the toilet and once he's in bed he starts screaming as if in dire straits. The only thing to do is to pat him to sleep - he can't seem to wake up. This has continued through the bell and now even when he doesn't have the bell.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles, Lib. I also used panty liners, but I used the wired one - alarm box on the child's collar. It occasionally didn't go off, but usually because it had moved a bit in the undies. It may just take some trial and error to get the position right?

The hired alarm I used for DS#1 was definitely more user-friendly, but was a more expensive way to go. I was still happy with the one I bought for DS#2 and #3.

We were having great success withe alarm, We had 14 nights dry and then it all came undone. No idea why. he was massively wet and alarm wasnt going off. we have tried the panty liners and they didnt work. Dry nites with the alarm were working but not anymore. So have been trying the sensor wrapped in tissue. I think that he wriggles around so much at night that the sensor moves and then the wee doesnt set it off. I is so frustrating at the moment. He is going to sleep with me tonight so will see how it goes. We also have the wireless alarm.
