Hi,
9months DS is teething and is down with a nasty cold (high fever). He is pretty blocked up so feeding is difficult but today he just gets frustrated and starts to grind my nipple between his teeth before letting go (big ouch - he has 4 teeth out already). I just tried feeding with a nipple shield and he took one look at it and burst out crying. He doesnt usually take the bottle of EBM. He is still eating his solids (less than normal, but not too bad). Any ideas on how I can get some milk into him while still keeping myself intact? Thanks |

Your bubs is probably stuffed up in the nose and squeezing some breastmilk into his nose via a syringe usually helps with the stuffiness. You could say "No" and take him off when he bites, as they do know what they are doing and he will realize that biting means no breastmilk. Another thing you could try is to give him EBM in a little open cup - little sips at a time, as he obviously cannot suckle very well with his cold. He will get over this stage, but it just means trying a few things to distract him from biting.
