Can I join in? I read the books before Christmas and then saw the movie last week and re read them. I am halfway through Mockingjay.
I had no interest in reading the books but my 15yo kept insisting that I read them and I loved them. I am 100% Team Gale. I love that there is such a strong female character. I think the bleakness of the districts is contrasted so well with the capitol. I bought them last week at Target for $10 each-nice covers too. |

I wouldn't normally be a team anything either... but from the movie I have to be in the team Gale camp. That guy has some seriously awesome eyes. He didn't get anywhere near as much screen time or words but he left a much bigger impression on me
While reading the book I wasn't drawn one way or the other. She was very much a teenager in her relationships and the changing emotions and allegiances depending on the situation and proximity to both boys. I liked that is was very much like how I felt about different boys at about the same age. |

I finished The Hunger Games last night. I really enjoyed the book overall. It took me a little while to get into it, but once I did, I spent hours that I should have been sleeping, reading it instead. Did anyone else picture Gretel Colleen as the host ( I know it was a dude in the book). There was one scene where I thought Katniss had a perfect opportunity to take out Cato as he was crying over Clove. It was late into the night when I was reading... Did I miss something?? As for Peeta or Gale, I think she should go with Peeta! I guess Gale will appear mire in the 2nd story. I bought the 2nd book today, Catching Fire, which I will start tonight. I also look forward to seeing the movie sometime. I don't notice too many movies getting ratings of 4.5 stars, so I am expecting a lot from it.

Finished last night and I really enjoyed it, much more than the movie but I think that was more to do with the shaky camera that was making me nauseous
Faru Farbissina - my understanding as to why Katniss didn't kill Cato then was because: a) she was still in shock that Thresh didn't kill her b) Thresh said just this once he would let her go, and told her to run, I guess if she stuck around he may still kill her c) Peeta didn't have much time left, she wanted to get the medicine back to him and not risk dying in the process. I am definitely team Gale. well for starters, in the movie, Liam Hemsworth...swoon...but in the book I think it is because he is not just accepting of the situation like Peeta, he wants things to be different! He has opinions and I guess he is a bit of a rebel I have ordered the other 2 online, dammit! Won't be here til next week |

Good points Patricks Mum. I guess I just thought that as she's such a good shot, she might have flung an arrow in Cato's direction as she left.
I'm on to book number 2 at the moment. Having recently read abit about North Korea (articles about a young man who escaped from a gulag there and made it to China, along with descriptions of life in NK like this one) I think that there are a lot of parallels to how Panem is run by the Capitol in the book. Would be interesting to know if the author had NK in mind as she wrote the stories. This post has been edited by Frau Farbissina: 07/04/2012, 08:53 AM |

For those who have seen the movie, did Effie Trinkett remind you or Marie Antoinette? When she commented that district one didn't get special privileges because they didn't even get dessert reminded me of Antoinette's "Let them eat cake" comment.
I have read all three books and enjoyed the series. I am looking forward to the movie sequel already. |

I read the first of the three books on Friday. Went to Kmart yesterday and picked up the other two and finished the second last night. Will undoubtedly finish the third book today.
Why does the president's breath smell like blood do you think? The whole relationship between the people in the districts and capitol is fascinating. ETA - just found the answer to the bloody breath smell (its in the third book). This post has been edited by winterlong: 09/04/2012, 01:08 PM |

Loved the books, but the camera work in the movies drove me up the wall. I hate all that chopping and changing, and I get that its all about chaos, but I have enough trouble taking in a big screen as it is, without changing it every 2 seconds, it was really disorienting. It didn't go on through the whole thing fortunately, or I would have hated it.
I have finished the 3 books, and I did feel sad when I was done. So much so that I read the first one over again. My DS is doing the HSC this year, and I kept thinking about how great it would be as a comparative text, lol. Can't have a coherent thought at the moment, I'll have to come back, family are arguing over what they all want for lunch. it's very distracting, |
