QUOTE (hannahbug)
Thirdly I wont be bullied by a swim school as to what I can advocate and what I cant, Im keeping the industry honest and kids under Five CAN FLOAT!

From the letter you quoted, it doesn't seem like they are bullying, refusing to teach floating or claiming that under 5's can't float.

QUOTE (letter included in hannahbug's post)
Back-floating certainly has a place in the drowning prevention world – but can be achieved without the ‘forced’ approach – in a more gentle and child friendly mannar, which is what our Swim School strongly advocates.

I know you feel very strongly about this topic but I agree with the author of this letter. I have looked into the learn to swim method you recommend and decided that it wasn't for us. The 'forced' nature of the instructions did not sit well with me. That's my personal opinion and I have found a swim school that I and my children are comfortable with. I don't think there is a wrong or right way to approach teaching children to swim or survival techniques because they are all individuals.

Some of your comments may come across as disparaging of swim schools that use different methods which may affect the desire of people to listen to the greater message of water safety awareness.

I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh because that's not how I intended it.

Two children drowned within 24 hours in NSW: a 12-month-old in a pool and another little child in a bathtub. sad.gif

Please, please, please always supervise your children around water -- all types of water! It only takes seconds to drown.

Two more drownings yesterday,how terrible

I must admit at the surf yesterday it was great watching the oldest nippers all doing their qualifications to turn them in to life savers. A magic group of teenagers having fun, learning to help put back in to the community in an important service

A small step, but at least it's in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing & for bumping this important thread in the process.

There have been too many drownings or near drownings in Australia this summer. sad.gif
