You girls have inspired me, I have been looking at all these recipes this morning and it has made me want a slow cooker so I had to go and buy one so I went down to Harvey Norman and brought a 5.5L sunbeam one. So I will be able to cook my first meal tomorrow . Now I just have to find a recipe to cook, then I will let you know how it goes.

Hi, I have the Breville Avance Meal Maker, which is 5L capacity and I think it is plenty big enough! I have a family of me, DH, DS and newborn DD (who obviously doesn't factor in meals yet so I am the same size as you. I find that this slow cooker is way big enough for our family to make at least two meals in each time, so one for that night and one to freeze, and I can also do roasts in it, because it is oval.
I would say go the 5L or thereabouts size, as it is plenty big enough and if your family gets bigger you can upgrade, years down the track when you could possibly need a bigger size. Remember that with slow cookers you have to fill at least 2/3 or you get a brown rim around the edge and it 'burns' there (I think there is an earlier post in this forum about that, maybe even in this pinned topic). That would be a pain in the bum to have to do every time for such a small family. My philosophy here is bigger isn't always better! Good luck with your choice! Leah |

Hi all!
I made this the other night for my family and OMG it was sooooo DELICIOUS!!!! I could have eaten the whole lot by myself!!!! It came off the Sunbeam website (I think!) Beef Stroganoff 750g chuck or round steak cut into strips 2 tblsp flour 2 tblsp oil 2 cloves garlic crushed 200g mushrooms sliced 2 onions sliced 1/4 tsp pepper 1 cup beefstock 3 tblsp tomato paste 1 x 300ml sour cream 1. Toss meat in flour. Heat oil in frypan and brown meat and onions. 2. Transfer to the Slow Cooker and add all remaining ingredients EXCEPT sour cream. 3. Stir, cover and cook on LOW (AUTO) for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours. 4. In the last 30 minutes of cooking stir through the sour cream. Serve with hot buttered noodles/rice. This was so yummy!!! I made the full recipe (usually just make half) thinking that I could freeze some, but there was none left!!! YUMMO ENJOY! |

Questions about Creamy Chicken thats earlier on in thread.
Made this tonight, was yum, but I dont think I did it right. When you put in soup, do you just put in the soup or do you make it up first - also add water/milk? When putting in sour cream ( this happens all the time with this ) it doesnt seem to mix in properly and ends up looking like bits of vomit floating. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any advice.... |

Another slow cooker lover here
I swear by apricot chicken and silverside, shall have to try the lasagne though. I have never though of doing it in the SC! Nor a roast so they will be on my list for later on ok ladies, now that I have read through all these recipes Im very hungry BUT, most of them are heavily meat based. Has anyone got some yummy ones that work well with just vegies, pasta, lentils etc - we are trying to cut the amount of meat me eat down in our diet. I love Risotto but DH hates it so I am reluctant to try those one - although it might just be too bad for him TIA, Kate |

I just want to add that I made the Apple Pork Chops from a previous poster and they were just Delicious!! Ive never had success with cooking pork any other way but the meat just fell off the bone and the apple sauce was just perfect.

thanks skitna, you inspired me to make my own version of the pork and apples - yum!
no real recipe - i used pork chops (but wouldn't again as it was too fatty) quickly sealed over a high heat 2-3 red onions, caramelised over a low heat with some olive oil and around 1-2 tablespoons of fennel seeds sweet potato cut into chunks half a bag of red lentils chicken stock powder / cube jar of apple sauce or apple puree or pie apple dried apples enough water to just cover everything cook until the lentil are soupy and mushy emelia and i just ate it on it's own with the pork broken up and mixed through it |
