Hope this isn't too silly a question, as I am the world's worst cook!
I have just bought a cirrulon (sp?) casserole dish and after reading this post, am wondering if I should exchange it for a slow cooker instead! Can I make slow cooker recipes in the casserole dish? How do I adapt the recipe? Thanks! |

you should be able to adapt them easily, probably just add more liquid than the slow cooker recipe uses
ok, here's a sort of recipe, i have no quantities as i just chucked stuff in, so apologies to those who like a 'real' recipe to cook from! vegie dhal 1 onion, diced 2 medium potatoes, diced 1/2 sweet potato, diced maybe 2 cups of red lentils 2-3 teaspoons each of minced garlic and ginger around 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds 1 tablespoon or more of curry powder chicken stock / coconut milk / hot water - i had the CM powder and chicken stock powder too, so i used about 2/3 cup coconut milk powder, maybe 2-3 teaspoons of chicken stock and probably most of a litre of hot water. cook all this on high for 3 hours then add in some green vegies (i used leftover spinach and rocket salad mix) and chopped coriander. serve with yoghurt and mango chutney. ** use any vegies you have in this eg: capsicum, pumpkin, carrot, cauliflower, peas, beans etc etc |

I don't know whether I have added this before so sorry if it is a double up.
Whenever and for whoever I make this for, they love it. I think it is the slowness of the cooking that helps with the richness. Also I am a great believer that meat cooked on a bone has more flavour. Depending on what curry paste you buy it is as hot or as mild as you like. Thai Green Chicken Curry 2kg of chicken drumsticks 2-3 tbspn thai green curry paste (Mao brand I think) 3 tbsp fish sauce 2 tbsp lime juice 2-3 tbspn brown sugar a few kaffir lime leaves 2 tins coconut cream Put all ingredients (except chick) in slow cooker and mix well. Add chicken drumsticks and cook for low for approx 8 hours. Then I take out all the chick drums and peel the meat off and put meat back in sauce. Add some beans or sugar snap peas and reheat for about 30mins. Also I add some carrots cut into matchsticks that I have steamed in micro for a couple of minutes. Serve with fresh coriander and jasmine rice. |

Chicken with Celery [/u]Four chicken breast fillets 1 can condensed Cream of Chicken Soup 1 can condensed Cream of Celery Soup 2 Sticks of chopped Celery 4 Carrots chopped 1 Onion sliced Vary amounts of any of the vegies as you desire. Add other vegies if you wish. Just place all in Slow Cooker for 7 hours on low. Serve with Mashed potatoes and any other vegies. My whole family love this meal even my fussy 12 mth DS. It is a good meal to freeze |

I was inspired. I have my mums old crockpot from like years and years ago (I remember it from when I was a kid.)
Anyway I have been going through the CSIRO and adapting their recipes. I had the "Chicken and Rosemary Hotpot" tonight and the chicken was beautiful!! Also pretty much any soup recipe that I have I just chuck it all in and blend it later on. It means that its done in the morning and not hinking. I also freeze a bit for later on too. I think as long as you are game and with a bit of practice most recipes can be adapted. Im a chuck it all in and see how it goes type cook anyway (rarely has something not turned out.) Now to start on my EB recipes......hmmmmmmmmmmm. Sharon DH - Scott DD - Amey (July 03) DS Jack Riley 09/07/04 stillborn @20wks DD – Katie (Oct 05) |

QUOTE This one is to die for - from my Grandma Ingredients 1 kg chicken breast cut into large chunks 1 tin cream of chicken soup ½ cup mayonnaise 1 tbsp curry powder ½ cup bread crumbs 1 cup grated cheese Vegies – mushrooms, carrots & capsicum Method 1. Cut up and place vegetables on the bottom of the crockpot and cover with raw chicken pieces 2. Mix soup, mayonnaise and curry powder together and pour over chicken and vegies. 3. Cover with breadcrumbs 4. Cover with grated cheese 5. Cook on high for4-5hrs. 6. Put in the over for 15 mins or so at the end to make the top go crispy. I made this last night & it was so yummy!! My DH can't stand anything with curry so I didn't tell him until after he finished & raved about how nice it was. I altered it slightly & used a Creamy Chicken & Mushroom soup instead & didn't brown up in the oven afterwards. I also cooked some rice & mixed it in with it for the last 15mins or so. It's been my favourite meal so far (I've only had my slow cooker for a week)!! My 1st meal I made was Apricot Chicken which I substituted the apricots with a large tin of mango slices, put in chopped up carrots, onion & potato & it was delish. Great thread.. |

Hi Everyone,
Just bought our first Slow Cooker today after hearing so much about them and was planning on cooking Apricot Chicken on Friday night. Can anyone offer any recipes or suggestions?? I have heard that you are supposed to put less liquid in. Is that right?? Thanks in advance Meredith |

Thanks, Belindam, we made the lasagne tonight (with some grated carrot!) and it was a big hit! We'll be making it again!
(Recipe is on Page 5 if anybody's looking). |
